A few suggestions and ideas if NRL was to go back in time? What would you want for a 'heritage' type weekend? For mine:

- Beer out of tinnies
- Bulldogs playing at Belmore with trains going past
- Mud and Water on the field with no drainage
- 5 metre rule
- Refs wearing shirts with TNT on them
- Signage at the grounds with 'have a winnie'
- The Moose on commentary
- Softening up period for each game
- Kids sitting on the ground inside the fences
- Teams wearing their old guernseys
- Toilet paper being throw on the field at the start of the match
- Club Songs for each team being reintroduced
- All traditional grounds used. Cars allowed at Henson Park
- No security, no cops trying to arrest you for cheering
- Any size flags allowed

Any more?

I'd want to have the little triangle below the sponsors name that completes the Red Vee, numbers on the arms & three-quarter length sleeves...

I will also charge the field after the game & fight other people for the corner post...

Cheers,
Ben S.

Yeah. They do it once a year. Every other week its Australian Fake League.

Same two stadiums in Melbourne meaning no home ground advantage
No home ground.
Light that say when to restart play
Food costs a fortune
Beer costs a fortune
No contact because the AFL try to supress it
Cheap shots allowed for whatever reason that no one can figure out
If fans stay away from poor playing non-passionate teams, its the FANS fault for not having passion because empty seats are a sin in the AFL

This coming from a fan of the game that many attend NOT because of the game itself, but just for the 'atmosphere'.

Some game you follow.

As a kid, I always wondered how many trains got hit, and who had to go get the ball. :)

Bulldogs are wearing 1935 guernsies on Friday night. The game will be having old club songs etc. It's the 70 year anniversary heritage match.

And to FileMan, no, the Bulldogs didn't set their sights on this day 70 years ago, just to copy the AFL.

Parra are having a Retro Week v Penrith in Round 25 (I think), wearing versions of their late 70s/early 80s jersey. Would love to see Penrith back in their chocolate soldiers gear for that game!

All the teams are.

Round 25 is heritage round. Leather balls will be thrown into the stands at all venues, plus several other things. There was a list of things happening in one of the 3 League magazines earlier this year.

Cool.

In answer to Moffo, other "heritage" things I'd like to see if the game went back in time are:
Scrums that matter and are a contest;
Straight-on toe kicks at goal again;
Less of the pussy rules that encourage players acting instead of using skills.

Go and whinge on an AFL forum. No-one here cares.
