If we get a new coach, how long do you give them?

Anyway. I want to know how long before we turn on the new guy.

Do we reckon we could go a whole season with calling for his head?

I was actually wanting to know how long forum members give them before they start calling for his head?

How long will you go?

I’d only sign a coach to 2 years or with a 3rd in the clubs favor. If results are promising renew after the 3rd year with another 2. 5 years is more then enough to get an indication of things are looking good.

Exactly. You sign him for 3. If things are going shit you punt him. You don’t keep him for another 2 just because he has a 5 year plan.
I think we might have different ideas on what 'going shit' looks like but I agree that you'd be looking to replace if it didn't work out.

Would you call for his head at any stage within that 2 year period?

SK type results at the end of his second year. I think that period was the worst in my memory. Would of been painful in many ways. Recruitment, membership, and fans/sponsors all would of suffered.

Right, so you are solid for at least 2 years. Cool.

As sure as my arse points to the ground, if we bone BA merkins on here will eventually turn against the new coach.

How long does the new guy get?

Arthur got 8 years - I believe Phil Gould once was quoted as saying that a complete club rebuild takes a good 5 years

We don't need a total rebuild - Arthur has put some great initiatives in place.

I would give the new coach three years.

We only started turning on BA after the spoon in 2018. Before then he had majority support. I don’t get your point.
It was a welcome period of respite. I think we got into a really bad habit of fans bitching about the coach and the club going through them like a dose of salts between 2010-2016.

Just hopeful that if we get a new coach and the team continues to struggle that we at least support him for a while.

It cant be f**ken easy coaching the eels.

For the last time the only coach this mob has sacked in their existence is Daniel Anderson. Every other coach either quit prematurely or their contracts were not renewed. We have nearly a decade of stability.

I’d be happy to give the next coach 3 years no matter who they pick but I’d be careful on picking another rookie or that dinosaur Maguire who is in the same tough talking Storm school like our own dope who still reckons their 10 years ago ‘it’s all about completions and energy’ shit works.

To think he has not addressed our edge defence and lack of pace out wide is an abomination. Every coach knows about it except him.

For the last time, whether a coach was sacked or left is irrelevant. It was a departure lounge and evidence that coaching Parra was arguably the toughest gig in Australian Sport.

I don't agree that we've had a decade of stability. Didn't the NSW Government sack our entire board in 2016 (5 years ago)?

I was kind of joking about a provisional period but Nathan Brown had a contract at Newcastle that was less binding than most. I think we could do something similar with a rookie coach in particular. Give them a preseason and half the season and see what the team is playing like. Every coach is a rookie once upon a time.

a 5 year plan
bring back big face

I agree .... 3 year initial contract

what that means is that you probably need to make an assessment on a second contract after about 2 years - cos every f**ker wants a new contract a year before the current on ends (even coaches) .... if this look to be going well, there is a plan that has a decent chance of panning out then you extend in batches of 2 more years
