Hey all,

I'm doing my final year Industrial Design project at uni and I'm looking at the area of hospitality and the development of a product within that industry. However more specifically I'm doing research on the way people watch sports in pubs, and gauging their views about listening to the games in order to assess if there is the potential for a product design solution.

All of this spawned from my mates and I saying that it would be better if you could hear Rabs Warren going nuts in commentary when you're watching the game at the pub. So I thought I'd try my luck and see if anyone here could give me their thoughts on the matter.

If you ever watch sports in an environment like a pub, bar, leagues club, RSL, etc. It would be amazing if you could hit the link and give me your thoughts. I made up a really quick survey, its all multiple choice and takes about 2mins max to complete:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=9_2bhQEIjguAnRbweyzSR5Sg_3d_3d

Any info will be greatly appreciated and it will seriously help with guiding what I do for my final project. Also if you feedback about the survey please let me know!

most pubs nowdays just have TVs which are basically monitors, same as your computer.

The audio system is generally installed via in ceiling speakers and is linked with the PA system for announcements, background music ect

Its generally only the older or smaller pubs/clubs that have the old TVs with volume control

All done. I generally go to catch up with as mate. I have foxtell at home and generally have a bbq & a few beers at home then watch the footy.

The biggest negative about watching at a pub/bar is that you only have a fleeting interest in the game, you always ended up being distratced. Afterall the footy really is secondary if you are in a bar etc.
There is generally an idiot within earshot of you, and of course the trip home is always an issue, driving/or taxi distance for me etc.

Headland Diggers is great. They have footy on the big screen, and seating set out like mini stadium. Each seat has its own speakers and you get to control the volume for yourself.

Now that sounds pretty cool.

headland diggers?

speakers on each seat?

lol

f**k me, its like a drive in, sounds good.

my local is the three swallows (although not so local compare to where i live)

renovated not that long ago, they have TV's all over the place and because 90% of the people that go there watch the footy, the sound is always up and you can hear it all most of the time.

but like johnsy said, you always get distratced by the pub local doing an impression of don king in front of everyone and showing off his latest dance moves lol

I like to go to the game and then go to a pub where lazy fuggers are watching a delayed broadcast and tell them the score.

:)

I haven't got foxtel at home unfortunately so I'm at the local pub or RSL whenever I can to watch some footy.

I'm a smoker so TV's outside is a positive for me.Good sized screen, plenty of seating, loud enough to be able to hear the commentators, etc.

One of my favourite places to watch it is the Hurstville Ritz. The Rocksia would be good if it had screens outside I guess. The RSL around the corner from home is also great to watch it at (Usually spend friday nights there)

You are the worst form of human being alive. I've lost count of the number of fights I've nearly gotten into because of wankers such as yourself, quite honestly, I hope you die in a painful manner.

And I'm not joking.

You remind of the dumb pricks who put full beers on the ground at their feet at homebake and then cry when someone knocks them over.

Whilst I am not quite as passionate about this as you,I agree with you,it is poor form, and if you get belted for trying it then bad luck you asked for it.

hahaha

poor form is sitting in a pub about 2km away from the field watching it on TV because you don't want your faggy hairdo or pink shirt to get messed up.

I should be the bloke doing the belting.

How many Raiders games do you think a person who lives in Brisbane gets to see? Actually, more to the point, how many games each round do you think a person who lives in Brisbane gets to see?

You just typify the pathetic loser who is so desperate for attention that they have to go and piss others off - they'd rather be hated if it's necessary, just as long as people stop ignoring them and their pathetic existence.

I would be doing well to get from brisbane to canberra to give the score away don't you think?

Wow, i just got back from uni and check the survey results and the feedback is awesome! I guess it depends on how into the game you are as to whether the commentary is important to you (as well as a few other factors such as the type of venue you go to, etc).

I know that for the big games I like to listen to everything thats going on (particularly when you hear the ref chatting to the players after a biff). Thank you so much for the feedback everyone, its been a great response so far!

Honestly if you cant stand the thought of hearing the score that much grab your mates get a carton and watch it at home. Why go to a place where there could be plenty of people who know the score ?
