A fair chance we will go into next weekends game with our key positions filled by;

1/ Hinton

6/ Mullen
7/ Walsh

9/ Seu Seu

If you would have told me at the start of the season that this could even happen i'd have given you 100-1 odds - but if you would have told me i would be excited to see it and give us a very good chance of a win - well - don't think i'd have believed that.

What about young Corey Paterson? We have the basis of a good young side. We just need a few experienced guys around them to lead the way.

Walsh was amazing. Like I liked how he made mistakes, but didnt go missing. I hate halfbacks that go missing in games. First FG game and he made it look like it was his 2nd or 3rd season in the top grade. He made some quality passes and kicks and wasnt found out in defense. Would like to see him run at the line a bit more and I am sure he will bulk up enough to defend superbly over the next couple of seasons.

Hinton is good also, but wont even get a look in after Kids comes back. Real pity because he is a quality player, dropped a few under pressure but did well. Good effort on chasing down Pearce unluky not to get him.

Seu Seu I can see things in him which really excite me, however needs more discipline, HOWEVER his actions will slowly evolve from bad disicipline to expereicned gamesmanship as time goes on.

Mullen=my favourite player so yeah nothing more to be said.

Its quite strange that we would field a team of such young players and still be competitive. I'm still not sold on Seu Seu, he can be quite the Perry in that he can cost us a penalty in vital stages IMO. I hope the best for the young bloke, but IMO, he was punching well above his weight in FG and i think he can potentially cost us badly.

Also, with the forwards, they don't seem to get their hands on the ball till late tackles but verse the roosters they were making 15m per hitup which is quite outstanding.

Somewhere in Newcastle, Josh Perry sobs into his Whopper.

Wouldn't that be whoppers

I notice how mudguts still hasn't signed with Manly, me thinks hes playing a game trying to wrangle a contract out of the club.

I think we are still short one top line prop and a backrower / lock. Lets hope smith has a trick up his sleeve

I don't think Hinton will be a long term pospect, he's just not that great IMO, not particularly big, not particularly strong, smilar to polglase IMO

Disagree - I think he (Hinton) has alot of potential. deceptively quick and strong. reminds me alot of Wade McKinnon or Patton. IMO we will lose him and he will go on to be a very solid first grader at another club.

Hnot as bg or as quick s either of those guys. He' gutsy but I'm a fan of bigger, more athletic outside backs. He's deceptely quick bu not overly quic, he's deceptively stong but hes 80kg at the end ofthe day

welcome to the forum, brian....

on a serious note, I think FB is one position where you can get away with being a little bit smaller - not Roy Bell small, but Hodgson, Campbell etc have made a go of it. Hell, Robbie O wasnt a big man by any stretch.

Hinton has impressed me in every 1st grade game he has played - and I think he will kick on. I hope it is with us, but with Kids playing there (and Brian's love of big backs) I dont think it will be.

I think its just the way the game has evolved, 5 or 10 years ago a 95kg outside back was considered huge, these days 95kg pretty much the norm. If Hinton want to stay in 1st grade he's got to work on his ball skills and playmaking, ala campbell and hodgson. There's no room for a small outside back wth no playmaking ability or ball skills

My bad my computer stuffed up and there was heeps of spelling mistakes in your post. Sorry, but it looked funny it was complete jibberish.

As for Hinton I agree with aqua, his an average player but his doesn't have the strenght that alot of the FB and outside backs. His has a good left foot step but isn't that quick. Great support player though, seems to always follow the big forwards who can offload. Just doesn't have the size to break tackles or worry the forwards even.

yeah sorry about that, my computer was going spastic on me while I was typing that post so I had to edit it.

Hinton, if he was 10cm taller and 15kg heavier, I would rate him very highly, but at his size he needs to work on other aspects of his game to put him ahead of those bigger, stronger, more athletic guys

I think you have pretty much got it spot on there aqua_duck. Hinton has showed that he can handle first grade football, but he is more solid than spectacular. He has a good footballing brain and this can be seen with his positioning in defence and his support play in attack. But he just needs a bit more in his game to succeed.

Yeah natural fullback. Definately wont play rep but solid. Considering that we have Kidley playing his best at fullback, Hinton will be our next Luke Quigley unless he moves.

You'd have to think that by the time kidley retires, there'll be someone else ready to replace him, someone like a jenkinsen

Bedsy may well be in his last contract for the knights. His body is showing the wear of his world class and gutsy play week in week out. Honestly for us to keep all these kids at this club it will take some serious negotiating. We are, for mine, on the tip of a golden period in this club's history. If the players coming through can live up to their potential we could well win a couple of premierships in the next five years.

I'm confident in some of generation next. We can't afford to go down the same path as we previously have where we have relied on our juniors and signing players from the real NRL and country NSW. We have to be in the market and sign quality players when we can. I'm pretty confident Brian Smith wont allow the mistakes of the past to happen again.
