GI is playing FB this week. If he does nothing else all year Maguire is already doing better than the bloke he replaced.

Souths have a problem that Sam Burgess can't fix.

In all honesty, Souths should never have bought Burgess. Forwards are everywhere.

Souths have needed for the past 4 decades now a strong and talented spine. They've never had any more than 2 of the 4 required players at one time.

Merritt and Luke is a good base to work on. Get some halves, bloody good ones.

And get Sutton out of the team.

The lazy f**k has more potential than nearly any NRL player has ever had and yet he f**ks around wasting everyone's time and money.

If he doesn't want to play to the best of his ability, f**k him off and get someone who does.

Souths should have not bought Burgess, wtf :roll:

Such a pretender of a coach spends more time talking to the media then coaching it's why he put a media ban on our young half so he gets all the attention. We should sack him and get a real coach like Rick Stone I understand he looks like a lesbian but he sure can coach.

Just to be honest, puzzled by some selections, King, Merritt examples.

That said, this team has 2 of the best players in the comp, and enough support.

I don't rate Kearney, but reserve judgement.

My coach as meh...

Yet Des and Wayne get something...

What was the last team that won a premiership with a halves combo where at least one of them wasn't already a test/origin player or was on the cusp of major rep honours?

2011 - Foran (NZ Test player) & Cherry-Evans (Made Aust test debut after GF)
2010 - Soward (Origin player) & Hornby (former test and Origin player)
2009 - Finch (Origin player) & Cronk (Test and Origin player)
2008 - Lyon (test and Origin player) & Orford
2007 - Inglis (test player) & Cronk (future test and origin player)
2006 - Lockyer (test and Origin player) & Perry
2005 - Marshall (Test player) & Prince (made test debut after GF, Origin player)
2004 - Anasta (former test player) & Sherwin
2003 - Campbell & Gower (test player)
2002 - Fittler (test and Origin player) & Wing (Test and Origin player)
2001 - Rudder & Johns (test and Origin player)
2000 - Ikin (former test and origin player) & Walters (Test and Origin player)
1999 - Geyer (future Origin player) & Kimmorley (Test player)
1998 - Walters (test and Origin player) & Langer (Test and Origin player)
1997 (SL) - Walters (test and Origin player) & Langer (Test and Origin player)
1997 (ARL) - Johns (test and Origin player) & Johns (test and Origin player)
1996 - Kosef (origin and Test player) & Toovey (Origin and Test player)
1995 - Lamb (Former origin and test player) & Polla-Mounter
1994 - Daley (Test and Origin player) & Stuart (Test and origin player)
1993 - Walters (test and Origin player) & Langer (Test and Origin player)
1992 - Walters (test and Origin player) & Langer (Test and Origin player)
1991 - Carter (Future origin player) & Alexander (Origin and Test player)
1990 - O'Sullivan & Stuart (Origin and Test player)
1989 - O'Sullivan & Stuart (Future Origin and Test player)
1988 - Lamb (Origin and test player) and Hagan (Origin player)
1987 - Lyons (Test player) & Hasler (Test player)
1986 - Kenny (Test and Origin player) & Sterling (Test and Origin player)
1985 - Hagan (Future Origin player) & Mortimer (Origin and test player)
1984 - Lamb (Future test and origin player) & Mortimer (Origin and test player)
1983 - Kenny (Test and Origin player) & Sterling (Test and Origin player)
1982 - Kenny (Test and Origin player) & Sterling (Test and Origin player)
1981 - Kenny (Future Test and Origin player) & Sterling (Future Test and Origin player)
1980 - Hughes & Mortimer (Interstate player and future test player)
1979 - Trudgett (Interstate player) & Morris (Test and Interstate player)
1978 - Thomspon (Test player) & Martin (test player)

I found one, 1977!

I had to go back 35 years to find a GF winning halves combo where at least one was either a rep player or became rep a player immediately after the GF.

Props and backrowers can be got anywhere. Crieky, Tigers won the 2005 title with two props who never (and still haven't) played Origin.

Who would be the best backrowers in the game today?
Burgess, Ellis and Gallen.

How many NRL Grand Finals have they played in?

Consider yourself schooled.

lol, yeah generally if halves get their teams to the Grand Final they tend to be rewarded with rep honours. I don't see how you can establish an argument that you need rep players to feature in a GF and then turn around and say players who became rep players AFTER the Grand Final count as well

With that in mind. Manly, Roosters, Warriors, Eels, Dragons have all had players in the halves with no rep honours playing in the Grand Final. Oh look, that's basically every team in the last couple of years to make the GF

If they're good enough to win a GF they're good enough for rep footy.

Souths halves have not been good enough for 40 years.

Simple fact.

I think buying Inglis was our error tbh. We never really had any issues finding the try line before he came along. We should have gone hard for a half back then.

Does it really matter? Everyone knows whats wrong with Souths. The same as Australian soccer lmao! Souths are the most under performing side yet have the largest and most passionate supporters! As long as were there to hold the flame the club will be there to take the absolute piss out of us! Lets buy Ivan Lendall as a sports psychologist! It couldn't hurt.

No to be a pedant, but Soward wasn't an origin player when we won the premiership. It still proves your theory true with Hornby there. Everyone else looks pretty spot on though. You need a good halves combination or you don't win premiership's it's pretty simple. Until Souths fix this they'll never be a threat.

We had a halfback but couldnt afford to keep him thanks to the ridiculous salary being payed to Inglis.
Sandow isn't a premiership player. He doesn't have the defense or the consistency to do it.

Inglis is worth the money. Sandow isn't.
