Don't know if the cut team would be too keen on sharing a database of member info to a competitor sport.

Could easily just make it an advertising campaign.. I'm not sure a scavenger approach would be the best look though.

Maybe something as simple as a 30% discount of membership for new members who were/are members of any other professional sporting club in the last 12 months. Would add a bit of appeal for fans of other NRL teams in those cities to catch a game or 2 as well.

I fear Brumbies going would benefit GWS more than Raiders.

Where as the Force being chopped would benefit NRL more than AFL.

Correct. Canberra has a lot of casual sports fans, for all the local teams. They are parochial about Canberra more than an individual code. Most Brumbies fans are Raiders fans to some extent anyway. Cutting the Brumbies would mean that those who do go to a couple of different sports every weekend or fortnight or whatever would be more likely to check out the AFL on top of the Raiders games they already go to. Any net gain for the Raiders would be negligible at best

It may also provide impetus for an A League team which is not going to help the Raiders at all

Only if we get a team in perth otherwise it will have zero impact, but Force wont be cut so mute point.

Not even the ARU would be that stupid. Don't quote me on that next week. The ACT and the Raiders will never have massive crowds or be the most profitable(or broke in the Brumbies case) but at least they actually produce players.

Looking at it from the ARUs' point of view I can see why they'd cut the Brumbies, I don't think it's a good idea to cut a club with a relatively large and rusted on support base (by RU standards) in such times, but can see that they don't really have a choice, it's either a club in a big city that adds all the benefits of having a club in a big city but is also under preforming and not well supported, or cut a club in a small city that over preforms and is well supported but is poorly run.
They're stuck between a rock and a hard place because cutting either of the two is going to have massive lasting repercussions for the sport in this country.

But cutting the Rebels and relocating the Brumbies to Melbourne is just a stupid idea. All it'd do is piss both sets of fans off, you'd be basically killing both of them instead of just one.

If I was them I'd be talking with the Kiwis and maybe the Japanese as well about splitting from SANZAR and Super rugby altogether and starting their own Asia Pacific competition, seems to me that it's more likely that they'll get a good result for RU in Australia going down that path then continuing with Super Rugby.

Or will they remain the act Brumbies and take 2-3 games a season to Melbourne?

Why bother, the people of Melbourne are not going to consistently turn up to watch the an ACT based team play c list South African teams, especially when they had their own team in living memory.

If you are gonna go down that route then variety is better anyway IMO, so maybe each of the other Australian Super Rugby teams take a game each to Melbourne, and Melbourne get Wallabies games more regularly then they have been getting them.

100% agree with this. I think that's the only way forward that makes sense. NZ has a lot of power to wield and should make this happen.

Whilst on the surface it seems like a kick in the teeth to South African rugby I think they would benefit long term.

Why are we talking about scummy union?
In many parts of the world and even in Australia we share each other's players. Look at most of the Nz breed players , most have played union before league and then cross over or get poached at a young age.

More NRL presence with games for sure.

Maybe whilst the ANZ stadium is revamped the Rabbitohs could move 3-4 games a year there.

The NRL should have a team in Perth already. The fact union has shot itself in the foot there is actually the least of the reasons for it to happen. But when you've got an administration that has no interest in growing or developing the sport of rugby league we might as well have the union lot running our game too for all the use the NRL is.
