In before sack Bennett

I'd much rather these articles than 'Can Mullen handle it' or 'BJ is a grub'. Wayne wants them talking about him. If he was genuinely thinking about leaving, I don't think we'd know about it.

Although they have been giving the '00 Prelim a bit of a flog.
I bet that's one of the big ones he's trying to avoid. It wouldn't have been lost on Bennett that almost the entire focus last match was on Mullen, and that it got in his head a bit come game time.

Eventually Mullo is going to have to deal with this shit by himself and own that pressure... but it's great to have a coach that knows how to handle this shit in the mean time. Mullen probably could have gotten over his mental demons a lot earlier with a coach of this calibre and experience at the club.

Nailed it. Particularly the Mullen one as perverse said. Leilua's been getting a bit of attention over the last couple of days (Noddy called it a dog act last night), but overall not too bad as far as our players are concerned.

Also, in a bizarre kind of way maybe the fact we won such an important game even though Mullen was average (and he would know it), maybe that will give him confidence that he doesn't have to do everything and he'll relax a bit more.

It IS possible that he wants to move on if we win the comp this year... and to be honest, he would have my absolute blessing. He would be passing on quite a set up to Stoney, and I'd back Stoney to follow through with it. It would also help us avoid an exodus of players in 2015 when Wayne leaves, as most of our important guys are signed up until then.

I just can't see him going anywhere except Brisbane after us. He wants to be close to family... Townsville isn't really much closer than Newcastle to the best of my knowledge. Doesn't weigh up at all.

Assuming said players dont have get out clauses involving Wayne leaving. This seems to be the go these days

Well he could have put it to bed straight away by answering "no" but he hasn't and he'd be well aware of the speculation that will now run rife because of the answers he gave. As you've pointed out Nuffy, one has to think it is to take the pressure away from the team and look for something more to really galvanise the squad even further.

His words were very deliberate. This means on of 2 things:

1. Taking the pressure off the boys, and turning it on him.
2. He is entertaining the idea of leaving the club.

They are both possible.

Well yeah for sure. I can't really comment on that either way. The key is keeping these blokes happy... a happy player isn't overly likely to leave mid-contract.

The fact he went out of his way to thank Tinkler should be taken one of two ways. Firstly he is hoping to sign off with a title or secondly he is reaffirming regardless of circumstance he will stay on. i find it hard to fathom he would leave the tightest group of players i have seen at this club just like that. These blokes are brothers in arms. It shows on field how close they are. Boyd never showed that much emotion on field at his previous clubs. They are all part of something.

I think there is only one chance of him leaving and that is if he wins a premiership.

I suspect at that point he may be tempted to ask for a release and hand over to Stoney.

At the end of the day, he has a signed contract so unless we don't honour it in some way, he can only leave with our approval and blessing.

Anyway a moot point because its a game he's playing right now for the benefit of the media.

The Boyd thing is actually a really good point. Just say that hypothetically Wayne leaves at the end of the year, would we grant Boyd a release to go with him? And even further, would Bennett want him to go with him? He's said a couple of times that he wants Darius to stay here no matter what and that he's never seen him more content.

From what I have heard is that Bennett does have a 4 year contract but a 2 year contract with a 2 year option in his favour

Mate, I just don't think that's the case, I've never heard of this and I just can't believe it's never come out before.

Everyone would be talking about this development.

"The Newcastle Herald has been told by variety of sources over the past few months that Bennett’s contract with the Knights – originally announced as a four-year deal – is actually a two-year deal with an option in his favour for another two years."

These days the Newcastle herald is almost as bad as the telegraph in terms of credibility. Robert dillon is their version of josh massoud

Granted its mentioned in that article, but can anyone honestly say they'd heard of this development prior to that article.

I don't also have to point out that Dillon has been grinding an axe for quite some time since the Herald got the flick as the preferred paper.

If it was in fact true, why has no other paper or journalist mentioned this fact and why haven't all the busted arse clubs been chasing Bennett knowing that he's actually off contract if you believe the article.

I think its Dillon being a class A nark before the Knights biggest game in a decade.

Mail today Neil Henry is our plan B should Bennett leave. Makes sense given the fact HSG essentially demoted Stone. While Stone deserves the gig I think Henry would not be a step backwards at all. I rate him highly. Case in point is the Cows run into the finals. He found a way to stop the bleeding and then some.

Henry won't happen. He just signed to the Gold Coast to be the assistant coach to Cartwright, pretty much meaning if Cartwright fails to get the team into the top 8 at least next season, then Henry will take over.

The same Henry who left Taulmalolo and Mitchell rot in QCup while the Cowboys season fell apart?

The same Henry whos team was going busted until his sacking was announced?

No f**king thanks

What has Neil Henry achieved in his time in the top positions? He's underachieved massively.

No thanks.

I don't think Bennett is going anywhere, but it's him or Stone for mine.
