Maybe that’s not the woman in his life that’s causing the problem.
I'm not sure what content your meaning here but I'm going to take it from a certain perspective and agree with you that it could be causing the lack of focus.
From what I understand Hynes' relationship with his partner is very good, and he is really happy.
We have all heard about Nicho's broken upbringing and the effects it has had on him.
As a person who has also come from a very broken home, a lot worse than Nicho's but nowhere near as bad as a lot of others, I can tell you what becomes a life pattern:
TURMOIL = NORMAL

This in turn causes yourself to be totally focused when chaos is surrounding.
It also makes it very hard to maintain a relationship because what is "normal" to yourself is nowhere near the norm for others.
What I'm trying to say here is that maybe Nicho has lost whatever edge he has because his life has become very settled for the first time.
As both a sportsman and a musician all my life I can tell you there is a very fine line between the difference of the two, they're basically the same, as in the inner need to express yourself through live outlets.
The few times I've had extended versions of "calmness" have also coincided with no feelings of need to express.

Enough of my psycho babble, someone just organise for his chick to feck him over so his TURMOIL becomes NORMAL again, and let the focus be regained.*
