So are crocker and lowe still having to be offloaded as well or has some farcical deal been done there as well
There wasn't a farcical deal, or any conspiracy. We never needed to lose all of them, those 3 combined make more than GI's entire contract for the first year. I think the 3 names were thrown out because your more likely to catch a fish with 3 hooks than 1.

Yep there is no doubt that due to clubs and supporters absolute arrogance has made souths one of the most hated teams in the comp

Im sure after the 1 year with souths he would have re-negotiated considering his form...

dont try and make this out that champion is happy... i guarantee he isnt.
Life isn't always fair, noone is jumping up and down at the thought of losing him. But the hundreds of thousand extra dollars he's now guaranteed that he wasn't before today will cheer him up.

Remember, he chose to go (with our blessing). But we couldn't force him if he didn't want to. This gives him long term security, we wouldn't have resigned him.

I think that answers the question and proves robo's point.

How does it? We know we already had 190k room for him. Plus the parts of the 3rd party deals that were accepted. We were only looking at freeing up 200-250k. Champion is 300k.
i disagree.
I disagree. Unless he was willing to sign very very cheaply it would have come down to choosing between him and Luke, and there's no way we're letting Luke go.

Does anyone really care? Yet another attempt by Souths to buy a premiership.... Its a yearly occurance.. Who is it gonna be next year? Billy Slater? Cam Smith?

There's a difference between signing and paying overs for Peachey and Wesser beyond their best and Burgess and Taylor and Inglis in their prime.

A bit disappointed. Champion has been shafted for something that appears more shiny. Media rhetoric jumps up and down at player loyalty these days, but club loyalty is also now a joke.

And disappointed in Melbourne management too. While I'm sure Champion will be a sound purchase, and will be a solid centre, we don't need him. I do not understand how he could be fit under the cap unless he is massively back-ended...so what does that mean for the promising youngsters (Widdop, Duffie, O'Neill, Bromwich, Kelly, etc) we will want to re-sign then? And what does that do to our backline? Slater, Quinn, Nielsen, Champion, O'Neill, Widdop... What about Matt Duffie? What about Maurice Blair? What about Chase Stanley?

Ibesides the dodgy souths mob, I just cannot understand at all how the storm can sign any players. They have signed 4 or more players for next year..maybe not huge names but they have signed more than some teams who weren't cheating the system

So, will those third party deals still stand, meaning Inglis is going to earn a sh*tload of money now?

Or does this simply mean that his base salary of $190k plus third-parties is all included under the cap with the removal of Champion from the roster?
