Oh that's pretty good.

Preliminary reports had him out for 10 months or something, didn't it?

Ive heard the rumours that Matty will be back no later than round 4. Unless of course Gallant is setting the world on fire and we have a good halves combination with JT (then we can really assess his long-term needs over the club's short-term).

Apparently his recovery is way ahead of schedule and he is only not playing in round one to be conservative and avoid long-term injury.
Lets hop this is true!

On a side note, Peter Parr (on the holidays) assured listeners on talk back radio that they need not fear the injury of Bowen. He sounded happy to answer questions and say he is confident he has his best football ahead of him and he has it on good authority his recovery is going great and he has done everything asked very well. He predicts big things!

I'd hate us to have signed Gallant to only use him for a couple rounds. He's a 1st grade fullback with speed to burn. That being said I don't put him above Mango in the pecking order. I know there's plenty of people against this but.......I want mango in the halves with JT but I doubt it'll happen.

Gallant is old-school Bowen. He's super quick and sniffs around the ruck looking for offloads. I don't know what his playmaking abilities are like - I doubt he's had the opportunities to showcase them, playing with Benji, Farah and Moltzen.

Matt Bowen post knee-op is not as quick as he used to be. Still got a good step, but his speed off the mark isn't as spectacular as it once was.

To be honest, I think Bowen moving to the halves makes more sense than Gallant moving to the wing (but that would also be good). He spent most of 2009 playing at five-eighth in attack and he's spent plenty of time in a playmaking role anyway.

If JT ends up leaving, Bowen in the halves is a definite - it would be suicide to throw two rookies into the halves.

Full strength spine:

1. Gallant
6. Bowen
7. JT
9. Payne

14. Watts

If there's an injury in the halves or to Payne, Watts comes in and Thompson/Stig goes to the bench. If there's an injury anywhere in the backline, Gallant covers it and Bowen goes to fullback, Watts to five-eighth.

I've just got my fingers crossed that Gallant doesn't get injured in any of the trials, because then we are really f*cked.

We need to make sure Bowen's completely healthy before he comes back and I think his confidence will definitely need building.
Gallant's going to get a proper crack regardless.

People are under-estimating Gallant as a signing for us. If he did not get injured, the Tigers would have made the finals last year (LOL - that is why I like him even more)....

Agree with all points about him modelling his game on Bowen, and for that, although he won't be the same calibre as Bowen, it means we are not missing that sort of game. With Bowen's injury problems, it means we have a fit Gallant running at thunderous speeds.

Then the signing gets better. People would forget Bowen had to set up a pass for a centre, or wing, or get smashed by the defence before backing up and helping Payney and JT attack. We have tried so hard to find a 5/8 to compliment JT's game, and although Bowen seemed an answer, him moving out of 1 was too big of a risk (to hurt our running game).

Having Gallant means we keep the attacking option from the back. Bowen gets more time to attack (playmaking) in the later set. And JT, Bowen and Payne have somebody good to feed the ball too (and perhaps Anthony Watts off the bench can help even more here).

Having Payne back, Gallant at the back and Bowen in the halves (and a possible Big Willie LOL)...Ohhhhh yeahhhhhh - GO COWBOYS!!!

Anyone know if Achurch or Hogan are available next week? We need someone new in the forwards, Kaufusi, Manuokafoa, Southern and Webb have been horrible all season.

Hogan hasn't impressed in the QLD Cup so far.

Achurch looks pretty good but he's more of a Bolton clone, I'm not sure if it's what we need at the moment.

The only other options we have really are the Cutters and Pride players who aren't contracted with the Cowboys, they aren't even full time players.

I don't think any of the Under 20's forwards are ready for first grade yet.

How the Ah Mau brothers going?

I haven't seen Leeson since the trials (apart from his frist grade game).

Isaak looks the same as always, he is willing to take the runs and make the tackles, he just won't make much of an impact (probably only makes about 5 or 6 metres per hit up).

It's probably time to update this.

Tate - ACL - Season
Winterstein - Broken Jaw - 6-8 weeks
Cooper - ? - Round 1

Pretty sure I read Amos got injured in one of the trials too. Can anyone confirm?

Tate isn't gone for the season, it could only be half.

Winterstein is only 6 weeks now.

Amos only broke his nose.
