Injury update

C'mon Alice, as traumatic as the injury is, the impact was to a knee sized area below his left eye. The bridge of his nose was not busted. I have no doubt that incisions will have to be made and skin pulled back. The tweet however claims an ear to ear incision and his face peeled down to his chest. This is ridiculous. No? Has anybody ever heard of such a procedure?

I work in operating theatres and it is reasonably common procedure.
Yes it sounds like a horror movie but the skin pealing bit is very safe with very few side effects.
It is done to gain easy access to the affected broken bones to better plate and secure them.
I am not making lite of the operation, it is serious but happens quite commonly for fractured zygomas which is the much more serious break compared to the cheek bone.

I'm not downplaying the seriousness of Mansour's injury, but in this age of medical advancements that tweet has got to be a gee-up. WTF is a wacko'swhisper?

I've heard elsewhere that it's actually common with certain facial injuries.

Didn't see this till after my comment.

Wow. Thank you for that insight. I had no idea.

The alternative to peeling the face off is to make multiple incisions to access the areas of injury. Doing this would result in multiple scars on the patients face. When you are a good looking rooster like Mansour this is not what you want:)

I respect the fact that you have medical experience, I have none. I still believe the description in the tweet is a gross (literally) exageration.
Edit- anyway, I obviously wish him a speedy recovery.

Gould has just said on nine Edwards will need surgery but they will rehab him for 6 weeks and try to manage him to the end of the season if the rehab fails straight into surgery

Mansour has been my missus free pass for the last few years good to see that potentially come to an end imo

What is this page and how would it in

Every game Docker missed helped us if we are being honest. Kid had heart but zero talent

That page is run by an actual medically trained physio bloke.

Yep the Physio was on Fox. Yep he's the genuine article too. The information he gives out (as he explains) is of a general nature about various injuries.

If you're on twitter his feed is good value, and appears to be on the money.

I posted his thoughts on Fifita's knee injury before the Sharks game. Couldn't have been more wrong .
I take all these "experts" opinions with a grain of salt.

Well he's not the treating physician. He's giving his opinion on what happens on field and the reports that come out.

Well he's not the treating physician. He's giving his opinion on what happens on field and the reports that come out.

Here's what he said,

"Andrew Fifita will be unavailable for selection this week as he recovers from bone bruising in his knee. Still expected to return sometime in the next 2-4 weeks. Fifita’s scans showed he has no PCL in his left knee, which explains why his knee gave way when changing direction. It also can explain why the initial thoughts of the medical staff was an ACL injury, as his knee joint was unstable. He will have to undergo a strengthening program due to the instability caused by an absent/torn PCL. Either Fifita had an old PCL injury (many players can play on without a PCL) or he tore his PCL during last week’s game. If Fifita has indeed been playing without a PCL for a while the 2-4 week estimate is where most return for mild bone bruising. If he actually tore his PCL in that game + bone bruising, more likely 4-8 weeks."

That's not a field report. It was also patently wrong.
