i spoke to steve witt in a pub in parra late last year after he had signed with the knights and he told me that smith said"as long as dykes is at the club you wont get a shot"....and that was said early on in 2003 ...after his good form in the trials and the 7's...the guy was nearly in tears......he told me he had no choice....the guy realy wanted to stay at the eels.
What I dont get is that why, if Smith treated Steve Witt so bad early in 03 and was such an ogour to him....why did Steve's brother resign for four years? Surely Mick must've thought that Smithy was ok??
Mick was in first grade at the time, and probably thought that he would be the exception. and then smith proves himself as the ogour but signing another player in his position, and moving wags to the halves as well!

Good question. Some of these people obviously live in Fantasy land. Nearly in tears? Is that how he reacts. No wonder he was cut loose. Anyone with any guts would have dug his toes in produced the goods and demanded to be resigned by his attitude and form on the field. If he bawls when he is told the truth, maybe he should be pulling beer at Wee Waa with Jamie Lyon. These sooks need to have a REAL GOOD look at themselves.
"If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen"
How dare you bag a player who obviously loves this club enough to shed tears at the thought of leaving it.
Our First Division team last year bled blue and gold, and would have done anything for each other. They played with heart and passion, most of them had come up through the lower grades, played rep footy like junior kangaroos, junior origins, and yet weren't good enough to be able to be next in line once a first grader was hurt or left. I could name 4 or 5 players that loved this club enough to cry for it, and all had been told that they were not wanted/needed but their own coach. Brian Smith is great at finding talent, i'll give him that, but he chokes once he has it, and most of his locals play their best years in first division (at below their best because they know they have no shot at first grade) or at another club.
I would give anything to have last years first division team back, but in the same breath, i wouldn't wish another year under Brian Smith on them, i love them too much
You love the old players like Price and Sterling because of the sheer passion they had for this club, and while being too young to comment on them, im sure that my boys have a similar love for this club. I would rather see parra lose every game then have a bunch of players that play with no heart. THAT is what bugs me
