Stand up international Bears! Here's my story...

As some of you may be aware, I'm Welsh and have never been to Australia but have really been invested in the Bears/Western Reds cause. This has been healing for not just those down under but others as well:D

Being proper south Welsh, not like you New South Welsh types, I was a union man until 2003 when my team (Bridgend), who won the last Welsh Premiership champions, got forced into a merger (Celtic Warriors) and after one season due to bullshit rationalisation reasons, the team got shut down by David Moffett prematurely. This story may feel familiar :(

I felt betrayed. Let down. So much invested in a sport I loved to be shafted. To avoid this I moved on to following league as to follow union was to be constantly reminded of the love lost. Unrequited love is a bitch (hence why I rail at the morons who post about about mergers and moving teams). I started following league, a sport I was always intrigued by but it was only shown sporadically on the terrestrial TV here when the Challenge Cup was on.

I can't remember when I first registered here but learning the plight of the Bears and Western Reds made me sad as it echoed what happened here. If Bridgend had failed on their own right, I could've accepted it, to be shafted by the league and rival clubs hurt. Listening to the Rugby League Digest's In-Depth Investigation of the Super League War I realised how both the Western Reds and North Sydney Bears were victims and ducked over due to reasons outside their control. A situation I understood.

I've been posting on the Expansion forum for years, did I think that the Perth expansion would be the Bears? Did I feck but reflecting on it, it feels right. Two wounds being healed together. With Perth and the Bears being admitted to the NRL, perversely I feel somewhat healed as well, righting a wrong. Australia's Team.

Why I've posted this, I've had a beer, it's cathartic, I'm a rugby refugee and it helps me reconcile my fandom of sport. I finally have a team to call my own in the NRL.

For non-Aussies, why are the Bears your team?

David Moffett has been associated with some dud decisions over the years ..

I heard him on NZ radio last week giving his opinions on some NZ Rugby Union issue , which leads me to believe that his involvement in the South Island NRL bid must be at an end now…

He's an narcissistic opportunist who is best ignored. If his was the preferred bid for NZ2, I'd be against it and prefer Brisbane3/Adelaide instead. He oversaw the hacksaw being applied to the NRL and Welsh RU competitions and cannot be trusted.

You'd think the timezone and later kick offs for the UK audience would help with this. Do we know what the preferred time for Perth home games is?

Ideally the Sunday 4pm AWST slot for home games but as TV dictates when games are played it could be anything! That would be 9am Sunday morning Uk time.

Ideally, I'd suggest a Saturday or Sunday 4pm or 5pm kickoff (WA time) for Perth games, which works well with east coast TV and WA locals being able to watch (regardless whether it's a home game or away). It also works best for home games attendences.

Any other times, and you're either making the games too late for eastern states TVs, or they're at terrible times here for people to get to. Or your having them earlier in the day on Saturdays or Sundays, in which case you're playing them in timeslots other games could be being played, forcing them to play at less convenient times for their viewership.
