england are set to play a 2 game series against the exile in june & july

http://www.rlfans.com/index.php?fid=41&id=244

t has been confirmed that England will face off against the Exiles in a two game series in June and July.
The International Origin concept was created last season in order to create a tougher mid-season opposition for England and was hailed a sucess after a crowd of 14,174 witnessed the Exiles defeat England 16-12.
The Exiles team is made up from players in the Super League who do not qualify for English selection with the squad being chosen by fans.
It is unknown who will coach the Exiles squad as last season's boss, Brian McClennan is now head coach at New Zealand Warriors. Ex captain, Danny Buderus will not be available for selection after moving to the Newcastle Knights in pre-season.
The match will be played for the first time on Saturday June 16th and then two weeks later on Wednesday July 4th. No venues have been announced as of yet but the broadcasting rights have once again been secured by Sky.

i've heard langtree park is getting one of the games.....and probably headingley...or odsal given that the RFL won't have to pay to hire odsal..

The quote says " players not eligible for England selection". Which I hope is true, but last year I believe it was only antipodean players that were eligible.

So, are French, Welsh, Scottish, Irish etc eligible or not?

That'd be good.
or how about -

ENGLAND ALL STARS
EXILE ALL STARS - Aus, Nz, Islanders
EUROPEAN ALL STARS - all the others

England vs Exiles - played in England
Exile vs Europeans - played in France or Wales
Europeans vs Endland - played in England

Then at the end of season have Euro Cup, Shield, Bowl, Plate & 4 Nations

So much for the KC getting a game then. LP yes I can understand that but Headingley still hasn't been dragged into the 21st century yet and Odsal, least said the better.

i love how us RL fans evolve a simple 2game series into a multi team tournament that wouldnever get off the ground lol

im pretty damn sure this must happen at RLIF level too which is why f**k all ever gets organised :lol

Well it's probably just me but I can see the advantage to the non-English european players playing against the exiles.

I mean isn't the idea to play against the best to become better? Apparently if you're not English though you should just f**k off though because your international development isn't as important.

Calm down doc. This is an initiative to try and improve the ENGLAND team's competitiveness without having to travel down under. It's NOT a vehicle to improve RL across Europe.

Lol, am I not calm? Internet's a funny thing to interpret people's tone, maybe it's because I said f**k but I only said f**k because someone else had said f**k and I tend to use the word f**k in everyday conversation a f**king lot.

As for the England thing I do get that but I still think the opportunity is there to do the same thing for France/Wales/Ireland/Scotland etc

i'm deadset against multi nation "combination teams" a la great britain........but i do see the merits of having somekind of "celtic tigers" team made up of welsh, scots & irish players...and its the celtic tgers that go on tours ( and england) instead of bring back GB that would have 17 englishmen in the team thus bringing absolutely c**k all to the welsh, irish & scot

abit of a under developed brain fart...but i thought i'd throw it out there

The Pat Richards question for June 16th. ... In 2008 - 2009 he played for ireland. In 2011 he played for the Exiles. Both are playing on June 16th. Exiles is no doubt the better financial option but Ireland will be building their World Cup Squad ????
He is only one of thre Irish players to ever score an international hat-trick and with his goal kicking he's a very valuable player.
Any opinions or anyone hear any rumours?

I guess Aston might go with an experimental team again like he did last year, especially considering it's not a real international match. No doubt Richards will be in the squad for the WC, and since both are meaningless games he might as well play in the one that earns him the most money. It would be nice if he plays for Ireland though, hopefully he will be in the squad for the European Cup at the end of the year. To be honest, this just futher highlights how stupid McNamara's 'innovations' (Exiles and England Knights) are.

Who are Ireland playing on June 16th?

Richards hasn't looked interested in playing for Ireland since the 2008 rlwc.

Ireland are playing England Knights. Richards played for Ireland in the 2009 European Cup, was seriously injured in 2010 and took the 2011 season off as Ireland weren't involved in a major tournament and he needed to have an off-season after missing the previous year through rehab. He was also Ireland's ambassador for the WC launch.
