I seen that. Seriously WTF! If they are going to do right why don't they just call it what it is St George-Illawarra reserve grade instead of this half baked rubbish

What does Illawarra get out of this joint venture?? 4 games?? Seems to me that St George just use the JV as a means for their own survival and don't give a hoot about the district except what juniors they can pickup as their own district has bugger all juniors by comparison.

The Cutters name is being dropped because their major sponsor has withdrawn. When the team was formed by a merger of Illawarra Leagues (not the same as Steelers Leagues) and STGI, to draw in sponsors they said that whoever sponsored the team was entitled to name the teams moniker. When Illawarra Coal came on board, they went with Cutters to tie into coal mining.

I agree it's stupid to call the team Illawarra RLFC but play under the STGI logo. But to say this is some kind of conspiracy coming out of St George Leagues is hilarious. Also CC_Roosters, at the moment the Dragons 1st Grade team actually has more St George juniors playing than Illawarra juniors.

But don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Your kidding, would not have thought that tbh. Generally though it seems a fairly one sided JV imo

NSWRL posted that yesterday. Keep up champ.

LMAO at Illawarra now being forced to dump the Cutters and adopt the Dragons logo.
NSWRL only post the teams, not the officials.

But don't let that get in the way of your personal vendetta...

Well don't you feel special up there, neigh neigh neigh.

-----------------------------------------------------

Saw on the Triple M facebook page that the Illawarra team will now be relaunched as the Steelers after all. Interesting given St George's opposition to this 5 years ago.

Saw on Triple M Facebook - which they got from an erroneous report on the RLW website. As @Scott Gourley's Lovechild said, they're Illawarra RLFC and playing under the Dragons logo.

Ridiculous name Illawarra RLFC sounds like a soccer teams name.

Hopefully they announce the name change and its supposed to be soon with new sponsors.

Be interesting to get a photo of the badge they will wear
As has been said already, they're wearing the Dragons NRL team's logo.

They explained during the Illawarra/Penrith fixture that the reason it wasn't changed to Illawarra Steelers is because of the new league in place next year where they'll become St George Illawarra Dragons again in the second-tier. So, if I'm not mistaken, this means goodbye to Wentworthville, North Sydney, Newtown, and Wyong as well (to replaced by their parent club names).

Could have the trickle on effect to see Newtown back in the RMC and Norths go down there alongside Wests again.
