Inu accepts he may no longer be an Eel

Inu has about eight seasons of first grade ahead of him. Grothe has maybe two at best as does Luke Burt. So why would we get rid of Inu?

We know we probably won't keep Mateo because he isn't worth 400K and he's kind of surplus to requirements.

So why don't we lose Cayless, Grothe and Mateo and buy a halfback (Hodkinson) a prop or two and retain Inu?

We have made a habit of letting players go too early. We let Ryan go in 2002. We offered him only a two-year contract when he wanted three years. He went on to play another eight years of first grade. We let Ian Hindmarsh go and he played four good seasons before coming home. PJ Marsh had a sensational 2002 and would've gone on but for the neck injury. Jason Cayless ..... Chad Robinson .... Shicofske, Hodgson,Tonga..... The list is a bit too long and depressing. We need to start thinking beyond our immediate needs and try to see a season or two in advance.

Where Inu is concerned a back who can play centre, wing, fullback and kick goals is kind of hard to come by. He's also a great ambassador for the club.

It`s as much to do with economics as anything else. Inu will cost about the same as four Jeff Robsons. I don`t think he`s worth it.

Four Jeff Robsons is a scary thought. Would they all just stand still, stare at the opposition and pass the ball one-out?

How long has Inu been at the club? Three years? And what has he shown? Glimpses of absolute brilliance for sure. But most of the time he`s shown an apparent laziness and poor form, not to mention injury. I stuck up for Inu when few on this forum did, a couple of years ago; but enough is enough.

He played extremely well in the back end of 2009 and he's been pretty good this year. He was injured for much of 2008. I don't see how you can blame him for being injured. Its not like he was Adam Dyke-type 'injured' he was genuinely injured.

Fair enough, he's not worth 280K but he's worth about 180K or about what Grothe is on.

Though I believe that that was Hagan's attempt to keep him at the club - offering him less cash but making him officially into a First Grade player in exchange for staying. Didn't quite work, though.

No way Inu is taking a pay cut. He is gone. Grothe i don't see taking a pay cut either. These guys have to make as much as possible during their football careers. What does it last 10-12 years if they are lucky?? They need to take what is out there. Its business at the end of the day.

Why would Grothe re-sign for 100K when he can earn way more than that overseas? I can't see Inu re-signing for 100K but he'd be worth about 150-180K. But then its probably a moot point.

That is reportedly the amount Eric has been offered and Burt took less than that we are led to believe. All speculation but it gives an indication as to how much Ando believes Inu is worth. If both the starting wingers are only on about $180k jointly then why would he offer a third player the same amount of money to likely be a backup?
Inu's only chance is if he explodes on the paddock proving beyond doubt that he is a better option than either Tahu or Reddy, or the more likely possibility, Grothe doesn't re-sign.
The problem is in the first scenario how much is left in Ando's kitty? If Inu does a Hayne and kills the competition then Canterbury, Warriors, Canberra could very well price us out of the market. In the second scenario, if Ando then turns his attention to Inu to replace Grothe, do you honestly believe he would now offer more to Inu than he was willing to offer to Grothe, considering currently Guru is a definite starter and Inu is only been used as injury/suspension coverage?
People shouldn't expect both to be in the squad next year. Much more likely it'll be neither

i'm a big fan of INU and Mateo, but I can't see them staying due to the large cut in salary that both would have to take. they are probably going to fall victim to the overinflated contracts that was presented to them previously, where they were paod big $ for the potential we are still waiting to be delivered on a consistent basis.

I agree. In the past, some of it has been warranted. But this year, he has been the best out of Tahu, Reddy and himself.
It'd be nice if people could just call it how it is, not how the past has clouded their judgement.
