If we lose Grothe and Inu then that is just dumb.

Well, I don't have any "sources" per se (though I do know someone connected with the club). But from what I understand from talking to people Grothe is not going to be an Eels from 2011 onwards either...

If it helps, this same source still reckons we will chase Tony Williams hard...Take from that what you will...

I'll tell you something funny about that, T-Rex was seen at the club after Grand Final night celebrating with ex team mates and wearing the clubs polo shirt.

he still lives out here too as he was picked up by the cops for DUI in Smithfield.

Back row, from what I've been told. Apparently the appeal is he can slot in at centre if needed...

I have to say, much a fan of Tony's as I am, if we lost Inu and/or Grothe to get Williams back, I'd be scratching my head thinking, "What the...?"

This could be a blunder by the eels. He is not only a good player, but a great ambassador for the game.

Not offering him a contract is ludicrous. The guy hasn't even been given a genuine attempt at holding/recementing his spot in grade.

He was going great guns at the end of 09, and in limited opportunities in 2010, has outplayed Tahu and Reddy in all games he has played.

I can see a mass exodus of disgruntled players, ala warriors some years ago!!!!!!

Eelementary. Let me tell you something. I could handle losing Grothe and Inu if we got Tony Williams and Trent Hodkinson back. Both are actually coming of contract.

I haven't heard anything on Hodkinson...

Mind you, my mate is not a "big name source" like others on here have, but he's given me some good info in the past - he told me about Brad Lupi, for example, and also let it slip about Wade McKinnon coming on board a few years back.

Nothing spectacular, I know. But it's better than nothing.

It's all good buddy, keep it up.

Good night all.

Is he off contract? If so, let's pray we make an offer. If he'd be that happy to come back...That's the sort of player I want at my club, to be honest - guys who want to be here. That's part of the reason it sucks to see Krisnan go - he genuinely wants to stay but it seems it's not to be.

Incidentally, I think you're right, staggs - Tony is not off contract at the end of this year, but at the end of next year apparently. But according to what I have been told (and again, please take this with a grain of salt because it's all hearsay), Manly management are pissed off with Tony - firstly because he apparently doesn't seem happy to be at Manly and has been seen to moan about "missing home", and secondly because of the DUI incident (they feel they've copped a lot of criticism in the media in the last few years for off-field dramas and don't want their image tainted further). So much so that, again, hearsay, they'd be willing to release him a year early.

well anythings possible i guess...and if there's an ounce of truth to it that I can actually see it happening.

Players come, players go. That's the nature of rugby league these days.

I think it just comes down to us not having the money from next year to make some of our current guys a decent extension offer. Inu is one of them.

For guys with some experience behind them, the minimum $55K is an insult. But for the club to balance it's cap in future years, that may be all we have to offer for positions that are outside the top 17 (like a back up back). For $55K I'd take Tony Williams back...

While re-signing the priority signings to big(ger) money, retention just comes down to who is out of contract when, and the luck of the draw with how much cash is left.

Well, if my mate is on the money, it might be a possibility - apparently he never really wanted to leave in the first place but was convinced to do so, firstly because of the big bucks he was offered and secondly because he was convinced that he'd have a better shot at playing regular First Grade at Manly. But he loves this place and would come back.

Sounds a lot like Hokko tbh, although I have been told he also felt like an afterthought at Parramatta under Hagan...like Avenger said, if we lost Inu and Grothe for Williams and Hokko, I reckon we'd come out on top in the end.

the funny thing about that comment is that T-Rex left the club as a first grader...

I wonder who manages him??....oh! yeah that's right! :sarcasm:

I could be wrong, but didn't he sign with Manly the week before we gave him his FG debut?
