Don't get the ipod... they break, get a creative, more user friendly and a better package overall

Shame not enough people know about Creative Zen Vision: M.

Way better than the Ipod and are really cheap now @ $191 at DSE if you can find any..

I got one, it's 30GB, has FM radio, voice recording, plays videos (avi, wmv, mpeg formats).

I still prefer the 1980s method - jogging down the street wearing a head band and carrying a massive ghetto blaster over your right shoulder.

I was like you once. My Vision:M died twice inside the first twelve months. The first time it took six weeks to repair and ship back, the second time I'm still waiting for it to return. When it does I'll be selling it, cos I'm now riding the iPod train.

Mine's been perfectly fine.

Only froze once recently but it was easily fixed.

I have an old iPod Mini, its given me more trouble than the Zen.

Also, I really wanted my player to have radio. And the Zen supports more video formats than iPod, I didnt like the idea of me having to convert every video I put on the iPod.

I bought an Ipod classic 30 gig. Screen problems in the first few weeks from a couple of bumps. I think its ridiculous having an lcd screen on a portable music player- give me the old black and white ipod any day. That was great whether i was jogging, using it while i was moving things around in the shop etc.

The problem with so many alternatives is a lack of space. iPod offer 80gb and 160gb from memory... size is something other players are yet to master from what I can tell. As I said, I'm pretty active with where I take it and I've even dropped both of mine a few times and neither ever crashed and burned. Problems seem to be much more isolated with iPods and most are end-user rather than a problem with the actual iPod software or hardware.

I've had mine fall off the roof of my car twice on to the road and it's still working just fine, I certainly haven't had any durability problems with it.

I'm on to my third (all upsized due to running out of memory) and I've never had a problem with any of them. As with anything...you look after it and it should be fine.

I'll be in Alex's situation no doubt. Started with a 40GB in 2005... now with an 80GB which is almost full three years later... 160 is next.

I'm on my third iPod. Started with Gen 3 15gig, then gen 4 40 Gig, then needing more space, the Classic 160 Gig.

The 40 works fine, which I still update and use it when running, cycling etc. I keep the 160 gig for the car, train, everywhere else.

Haven't had a problem with any of them, expect for when thr 40gig fell (my fault). I took it to a Apple Store and said that it suddendly started making noises and then stopeed and within two days was given a new replacement.

No faults from me.

Why do you need so much space ? My 8g Walkman holds approx 50 CDs which I'm lucky to get through in a week. Once a week when I recharge it I swap around the CDs on it, no big deal.

Some people (myself included) HATE the idea of having to pick and change CDs to what we think we will want to listen to that day/week.

I much prefer to carry every CD i own in my pocket rather than just the 50 that I listen to the most. Particularly when travelling.

Having enough space to hold entire series of TV shows and movies also is a plus.

Why swap songs around when you don't have to? If you can have your whole music collection in the palm of your hand, why not do it?

average it at 12-13 songs per disc - 12,000 songs... choose your best suited capacity. iPods always say how many songs on average they can hold.

I can't imagine ever needing that many songs on there anyway at present I've only got about 150 songs on mine and that's plenty.

I sort them into playlists by all sorts of different things - favourite songs, different genre-specific titles, by date added to the iPod, party mixes, all sorts of sh*t. Then of course you have album sorting, genre sorting that the iPod already does... it's useful IMO.

Lots of mujsic and I also have every Arrested Development, The Office, Fawlty Towers and a handful of good Simpsons eps on there.
