Irish appreciation thread

Really enjoyed that game this morning, even if it did mean getting to work late! For the first time in my life I found myself cheering for an Irish team, and was disappointed they didn't win it. Two stupid errors from Platt led to tries for Tonga, and there were times when a bit of composure would have seen them score more tries.

Wasn't that impressed with Tonga, not enough discipline at all and far too interested in showing how tough they were rather than defending properly. And the entire world knows that if you say anything out of turn to Ganson he'll ping you for it. They have enough guys playing over here to know what he's like.

Never seen a player as excited as the Irish lad that put the Tongan into touch on tackle 1 off the dropout...LOL

Thatd be Stuart Littler. mark my words he loves playing for Ireland.. and is probably teh proudest English born Irishman around. And judgingt he pride that the 17 lads showed thats a lot of pride.

It looks like some of the guys on here who attended are beginning to appreciate (if they didn't already) that there's life outside of the NRL. Rugby league isn't just about Australia, England and New Zealand, there's plenty of sides that are worth watching.

Enjoyed the game immensely, despite the mistakes and penalties.Tis is what the world cup is all about, teams from the minnows to the big boys having a go(rember waht that is NZ).
The minnow matches have had me more excited than many of the NRL I have watched this year.

The game was a ripper. Didn't expect it to be close, but in the end, couldn't take my eyes off it. I had a couple of people around who don't follow league passionately, and one basically not at all, and by the end of the game they were into it - groaning with every Irish knock on and missed opportunity! A great spectacle for the world cup - and again, allowed to build the excitement and momentum by not being interrupted every set of 6 for an ad break!

Total lack of discipline by Tonga. Looked likely to implode several times last night but managed to find some composure in the end.

Well done Ireland, you've made this the most interesting pool to follow.

I want Parra to sign Damian Blanch right now.

btw, absolutely amazing game. Just got home from it and I haven't been into any game of league as much as that in years.

Crowd were great, footy was exciting, Ireland showed great potential.

Hope Samoa sneak home against Tonga to make the Ireland v Samoa game a real ripper.

'Carn the Wolfhounds!

my thoughts exactly.

Much credit has to go to Ireland coach Andy Kelly!

He's worked extremely hard for a number of years to help get the Irish game on an upward spiral.

They were obviously well drilled, fit and had great team spirit which helped them to be better than the sum of their players.
