Buettner played on Friday night. Played 65min and was the best player. Prince to 5/8 and Kerr to Halfback.

This is a gee up right? He went OK but no where near the best player. Collis was the stand out (and not just because of the tries). Duffman, Plummy, Isaac (drug test the man), Cashy and Kerr all rate honourable mentions along with Beuttner. Hell even Kenny had a good game in a pretty good team performance.

Just because he shouldered Kerr out of the way didn't make him a better player. Actually it seemed to lead to him over playing his hand. Kerr was kicking better mostly and doing a bit more with it in hand.

What it did show from Beuttner (is that right? 8) ) is that he is fit, and keen. It was no lazy performance. He looked like he wanted to impress, but overdid it at times IMHO. Still he did plenty of positive things too and I wouldn't be surprised to see him called up. He's not a First Grade 5/8's ring though.

Why couldn't your boys have thrown him a few hospital passes - so we could be spared the prospect of a first grade call-up for the has-been????

because as I said he muscled into first receiver most of the time. Still he went OK mate

Micky B is a good quality first grade football. His best days are certainly behind him, but he could certainly add to the side.

I`m not so sure Micky B is a has been just yet!I`m usually the worlds biggest critic for ageing players, but although I didn`t see the game on Friday night and I agree with Yappy that 5/8 probably isn`t Buettners best spot in a side that needs direction. However everyone should remember how good Micky was,at his best. He`s always been a great hole runner,he runs good angles and if you play him in the centres i`m sure he`d be a great help to the halves!I reckon it`s definately worth a try as Elford is going ok,but Fitzy isn`t prepared to put his body on the line and hit a hole at pace.As a centre you have to be prepared to do this and although Fitzy has some good qualities in his game,I feel as a 1st grader he`s best suited to the wing or an interchange player because of his versatility!

If Buettner is amongst our best 17 players then we are in BIG trouble.
Name who you think are the better centre-5/8 options than Buettner?

IMO the best chance Buettner has of making the top grade is at 5/8, but no way is he our best option.

Personally I'd love to see Fulton given a go at 5/8 with Kerr at 7 (assuming Prince gets SOO call up). Otherwise you could go 6. Prince, 7. Kerr.

Also I wouldn't mind 6.Farah-7.Kerr, or 6.Fitzhenry-7.Kerr. Others who I would have at 5/8 ahead of Beuttner include Sattler, Halatau, & Wilson.

Whilst Fitzhenry is not a 5/8 he is still a better option than Buettner. Buettner was once a decent centre & sometimes 5/8, but those days are long gone. As far as current centres in our squad better than Buetts goes, you can take your pick from Elford, Halatau, Wilson, Fitzhenry, Collis, Covell, Viane.

The only way I can see Buettner getting in is if the vast majority of the above mentioned players are injured at the same time. If that were to happen then we are (as I originally stated) in BIG trouble.

I wouldn`t mind seeing Liam Fulton given a go as 1st grade 5/8 outside Kerr either.I stiil wouldn`t totally write off Micky though!

So how would someone rate Fulton's ability as a 5/8 then? Obviously he needs to be able to excel in that position in PL before he gets a chance in firsts.
