The thing I can't get over is appointing his mates as assistants, rather than going out and getting people who well may be a threat to him, but have runs on the board.

Having said that, the main problem starts with the ownership. While the HBG have the licence I fear we'll be bottom 4 forever. It's clear that they're not on board in having a continually strong team as their main and only priority.

Until you have that, we'll be down the bottom and may jag a semi final appearance once every 15 to 20 years.
I will gladly take the finals appearance every 15-20yrs coz it means we are only 1-6 yrs away from playing finals footy again.I actually think that’s a very optimistic timeframe as I just don’t see an end to the dark abyss this shithole is in.

You're probably right. I did say 'jag' a finals appearance though :D

If you could find a cross between Gould and Alex Ferguson to manage the team, and have it coached by the love child of Bennett, Bellamy, and Gibson, and have all the players listed in the last team of the century, I still reckon they'd struggle to make Wests Tigers work. We're cursed. Or is it doomed? Maybe both.

I'll say this for Benji. I think there were some big calls to make this week and I think he made the right ones. He moved AD out of the centres and bought in May and playing AD at lock is a big call.

I hope it works out but I think it's the right decision to make.

What a difference a month makes. Benji has definitely done enough to warrant another year.

A tough season no doubt, but Benji / Richo has played a lot of cards right.

Galvin situation...tick
Tallyn De Silva... tick
Recruitment for this season...tick
Recruitment for next season....so far so good
Finishing the season well....tick

You can't knock results and with 3 weeks to go it's likely we'll win 10 games for the first time in a long time. On top of all the off field drama this year thats a pretty good effort.

Last year the results were improved 33% on the previous 2 years and this year is likely to see another 40% improvement. You can't sack someone who produces that.

There's still enormous room for improvement, which we'll need to make next year. At least we're not going backwards

We always find a way to stuff things up dont we.
If yesterday's great win against Manly was a testimonial game for a Balmain or Western Suburbs legend we would gave found a way to get sin bins, give away crutial penalties because we don't know the rules or have several players break quarantine and get covid-20 and all become unavailable to play or maybe our CEO say in a pregame presser that we have the best spine ine the comp or all of the above and get towelled up by 70pts.
That's us, but we keep folowing them like lemmings.

Let's see how we finish this season and if we can build from here. We have to improve a lot. In stating that Manly have a pretty good team on paper. Koula is a weapon. They are sitting on the same points as we are.

There are 3 games to go. I want to see them finish this season off well.

No chance Benji will be sacked regardless of the remaining results and nor should he be. The Galvin disruption knocked our midseason off the rails and he's done a great job of getting us moving forward again. Also ( ask manly...cows...titans and more) it's hard to get a team just WANTING to play for a coach l..we've got that and you don't go far for very long if you don't have it.
Thirdly...comparing rosters including which players came when, i dont think it's unreasonable to compare Ciraldo's first season to Benji's '25 considering Ciraldo had many seasons as an assistant coach
Fourthly..Benji himself...i doubt there's been a player who has proved doubters wrong and as often as Benji Marshall has...2003 Tim Sheens was explaining the basics of positional play to him...two shoulder reconstructions and two years later he's the most dynamic 5/8 since who to win us a premiership. '25 really is his "2003/ 2004 player" / coaching year..i.think he's growing quickly as a "tough as needed" coach and prematurely counting him out hasn't rewarded too many punters since he first turned up.
"He doesn't even know where to stand...f ck 'I'm orf!"
"He's too fragile...f ck 'im orf!"
" For NZ?! Rep footy will find him out"
" KIwi captain ?!..he's not a leader"
"Future long term successful Kiwi Coach" ....no way anyone?
Back to WT...i think things are going in a pretty good "Benjilike" direction for mine.
