Is it time to relocate the following……

The problem with relocations (the only problem) of Sydney teams is that there is a very high probability of bleeding many fans of that team to AFL (Swans probably).
I’ve thought of some ways of doing the relocations that may lessen that but it’s not easy or guaranteed.

I'm a Producer at a Brand Agency and topics like these actually excite me...

I would hate to cede the GC to AFL, even if it meant relocation to Ipswich. I see them as Queensland's Wests Tigers, with the club struggling to be an attractive destination for promising talent, even if said players grow up in that catchment.

I think the branding needs a lot of work, and not necessarily in the form of a new name. The club lacks any sort of personality, and I would argue is the most anonymous of the NRL teams. There's no great history to fall back on (Dragons, Roosters, Rabbitohs, Broncos), no rabid fanbase, even if they're in hibernation due to lack of success (Dogs, Wahs, Knights, Parra) and don't represent any particular class of fan or proud area (Raiders, Roosters, Cowboys). There's nothing to love, and there's nothing to hate - they just exist.

Team colours and logo alone would go a fair way in giving them a unique identity which I would argue they lack. The sky blue/sand theme is as anonymous as the generic and boring AI generated logo they currently use. The "Titans" mascot is no doubt a cool name, but feels soulless with how it's presented.

Overall I'd argue the club needs to shift direction in a few ways:

1. Recruitment needs an overhaul.
Utilise their juniors and stop the flow of promising young talent being snapped up by other teams (Melbourne Storm, Brisbane/Phins).

2. New coach.
A Ricky Stuart, Wayne Bennett-esque siege mentality coach with the "us against them" narrative. They need an edge here as much as everything else.

2. New strip, colours and logo.
Thinking about it for 5 seconds, I would go with branding similar to that of the LV Raiders in the NFL. Black, silver and white. Something radically different to the rest of the league and unique. Give them an edgy, simplified Spartan helmet logo and drop the wordmark like the Dolphins, Rabbitohs and Panthers. Make the jerseys and apparel cool to wear, even when the team isn't riding high on the ladder.

Just a thought.. and a way to kill time in the office.
I've been a member of the Titans since day dot. I've always hated the name & logo but support the club despite it disappointing me more often than not. We absolutely need to rebrand to being the GC Seagulls and embrace the club's history officially. It can be done (Leigh Leopards have been hugely successful since their re-brand) and it's not killing the club, just acknowledging history.

Seagulls fits so well, on top of the history of the GC Seagulls and King Wally. It's unique in Australian top level sport (also not an NFL name) and it gives the club a personality which we have always lacked.

The Titans could be a team in Logan or Mt Isa, the name has no ties to anything related to the GC and it was chosen by a three-option online poll. The Seagulls immediately tells you we're a coastal club with a loud personality. It gives you options for childish logos like the current one but unlike now you'd see professionals wearing Seagull ties, pins, etc on Fridays. The Dolphins have done amazingly well in that regard.

If all that doesn't convince people reading this, I know what will: The NRL needs more birds.

It took me the better part of an hour to get public transport from Surfers to Cbus …

Where do most of the fans live though? The train line serves the inland suburbs reasonably but not the beachside suburbs.

Definitely needs some improvements though, game day buses from Surfers, Broadbeach, Burleigh etc. Eventually rail extension to Coolangatta and some better links between the light rail and heavy rail will help. Parking wasn’t the easiest any time I’ve been there but certainly not impossible, the regulars probably know some good spots by now.

The bus goes from Broadbeach …so it requires travel on the lightrail to get there …it’s only the light rail getting extended to Coolangatta I believe …so this won’t help much …

I don’t know where the majority of people live … but plenty live on the coast and not on the heavy train line which is inland and the line that Robina is on ,,,

The bus route is one of those round the world all stops types as well…. Perhaps a more direct service could be made available on game days ?

There’s a preserved corridor and plans to extend the heavy rail to Coolangatta/Airport as well but yeh who knows how long that will take, shame they didn’t fast track it for the Olympics.

Likewise there are plans for further light rail to connect the coast line to heavy rail suburbs in certain spots, one of the being Nobby Beach to Robina.

Again these are just ideas/rough plans that hopefully come to fruition at this point. Gold Coast is growing pretty rapidly so they will need to keep pumping out public transport projects as fast as they can build it pretty much, hopefully the stadium becomes much more accessible in the process.

Ok fair enough …. Extending the train line to the coast would be great …

It’s a nice stadium actually … it deserves to be better utilised…

Yeh agreed. Went down a fair bit in their early years, haven’t been for nearly 10 years now but always liked the stadium.

Metricon is probably more accessible to Surfers/Broadbeach but its still kinda in the middle of nowhere. Cbus at least has train station within walking distance.

Most locals going to the games probably don't live around Surfers/Broadbeach though... hard to know exactly where they live. The Gold Coast is very spread out and connects to towns down the NSW coast...

Yeah I’ve been to the Gold Coast plenty of times and stayed in a lot of different areas…I discussed the issue in further specific detail with Jim if you are interested In my opinions of the issues with currently getting to Robina via public transport from the coast where plenty of people live..
Not just Broadbeach and Surfers

These people who keep commenting on the GC have no clue about the GC . It's geography, it's people, nothing.
Robina is as close to the centre as you can get in a city that has no distinctive CBD. The most important part of the stadium location and why they choose it is because of its proximity to the train station and there is an view that in time Robin will evolve into being the CBD.
Yes there's locals in SP, Broadbeach,Mainbeach ect going right down the coastline but a lot of that population is tourist, retirees, surfers and posers that have moved to the GC because they think they're special- this sub section of the GC population probably wouldn't bother attending unless they're going to win and it becomes hip to go to the game.
This isnt the GC , it's just the poster.
There's a massive population on the Gold Coast that are just working families like everywhere else, that just happens to be not too far a drive from the beach. This population is massive! And growing rapidly! All the way to Brisbane and down to Byron Bay, well on its way to a 1 million population!
SEQ is the fastest growing region in Australia and with a bit of success will become one of the most supported clubs in the NRL.
Show me on the doll where the GC hurt you?

You can’t be referring to me … my discussion which is set out with specific details is around the problems with getting to Robina via public transport from the coast..not where it is on the map!

There are a lot of people living on the coastline south of Broadbeach to Tweed Heads which all have the same issue..not just retirees, tourists and posers in the Surfers high rises …( although I’m sure they are still welcome at the games too right? )

I wasn't referring to you specifically. Any understanding of the Gold Coast comes with the knowledge that the GC generally isn't known for good public transport. In fact the geographical nature of the GC with the Beach, water ways and hinterland makes it a logistical nightmare in general.
Robina being by the train line makes it not a logistical nightmare for anyone who lives within the train line stretching up to Beenleigh ( which as I was alluding to is actually a massive part of the GC population and projected growth).
That train line will be extended south eventually along with the tram will one day meet. Then there will likely be a connection through the middle to Robina...
I lived on the GC most of my life and I'm well aware of the lengthy process that was undertaken to choose Robina, which is undoubtedly the best location.

Everyone here seems to be an expert on the GC but have no clue.

we know what your opinion on anything is though. Every club except Penrith is shit lol
I just said the Sharks are a good club. Only 2 sides in the NRL aren't up to it. Tits and Tigpies, Wests can become a serious team committing to Campbelltown fulltime
