Is it time we get player names on the back of shirts?

Watching the world clup championship and the super league sometimes on tv, I love how each player has their own number and name on the back of the shirt, so if you not a regular super league watcher you know what that kids name is that made that nice pass or made that nice run, not having to wait for the commentator to announce his name.

I think its time to bring the same in to the NRL,would look so much more professional if every player had their own number and the name on the back of the shirt, most other sports have it and I think it looks more professional, the 1-17 on game day is so old school time to move forward and help the TV Audience that don't watch regular NRL football.

Yeah if I spent money on a Raiders jersey with Dugan or Ferguson on the back of it, I know I'd still love it....

Knowing jersey prices, this little bit of extra lettering would add what $50-$80 to the price of a jersey?

Names, perhaps.

Numbers, no thanks. Even though players jump from spot to spot on the field, even a basic understanding of the game is enough to identify a players general role by the number they wear.

I'm not really a fan of the idea, but the marketing side of it far outweighs the traditional side imo. A real money spinner.

I think the problem with names but not numbers is getting the shirts produced quickly enough. Or some such. This argument is from like 1995 and may no longer apply however.

Case in point: you tune in to a game and #78 is standing deep at fullback.

You are unfamiliar with the teams playing.

Under the conventional system, #78 would be #12.

See the reasoning now?

well, i reckon they shoudl do fan jerseys

100 bucks. jerseys without sponsorship. just the clean jersey, but with names/numbers on the back so they are more "timeless"

so you could have #6 Raiders Daley jersey or #3 Broncos Renouf etc as well as current players.

That would be great. I envy the sharks fans that had the chance to get a jersey with 'CSFC' on the front.

Tigers jerseys look nice and clean atm, clean sleeves and all but the white box with 'allied' on the back totally ruins what would be a top shelf strip.

I think names should be done for the Grand Final, most certainly but numbers need to remain the same.

But yeah, big fan of the name on the back of jerseys. Would love to see them on a weekly basis given only a small number of players per team tend to wear different numbers week to week.

Names and freedom in numbering should be done ASAP. We're losing a lot of potential revenue by ignoring this.
