The NRL integrity unit is investigating details around a leaked photograph of South Sydney Rabbitohs superstar Latrell Mitchell, showing him at a table with what appears to be a white substance.

The photo

Both South Sydney chief executive Blake Solly and Mitchell’s adviser, boxing promoter Matt Rose, are aware of the photo.

Both declined to comment when contacted by this masthead on Monday afternoon.

In the photo, it appears Mitchell has his face down near the table and the white substance. There is no suggestion that the white substance is an illicit drug.

This masthead has attempted to contact Mitchell, who is not answering calls.

A television reporter turned up to South Sydney training on Monday morning to ask questions about the picture on his mobile phone.

Solly then contacted the integrity unit.

Mitchell is in the company of an unidentified blonde woman in the picture.

There are no details around when or where the photograph was taken.

Mitchell was in Dubbo to do coaching clinics over the weekend and is understood to have stayed overnight.

Mitchell’s manager Warwick Wright could not be contacted.

The NRL has been contacted for comment.

Mitchell has been sidelined for more than five weeks after suffering a foot injury in South Sydney’s 32-16 win over Parramatta in Round 18. He is not expected to play again this year. The 27-year-old fullback has played in only 11 games this year.

He was suspended for three weeks earlier in the season for an elbow to the head of New Zealand Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson as the Rabbitohs tumbled out of finals contention.
It’s definitely sherbet…

Latrell had the same political views he’s always held during Origin 2 and performed to the standard we expect from him. Not playing centre is what’s stopping Latrell from achieving his best. I don’t mind sport and politics mixing when it’s warranted. We were right to stop teams touring apartheid South Africa for example.

Agreed.

Rugby league literally exists because of politics!

NRL 360 was very much shoot the messenger with the Trell thing. Yep, the photographer is a grub but Trell still very much has some questions to answer,

The last time Wayne Bennett arrived at Souths, he convinced a post-greatness GI his heart was no longer in it, and he was retired by Round 5 of Wayne's first season here.

Just a thought.

Lol at the DT article

"There is no suggestion the substance is illicit"

Umm that is exactly what you're suggesting.

That's my fave bit. It's basically them saying "We're DEFINITELY not suggesting there's anything newsworthy here even though if that was the case we wouldn't be writing about it..."

If you thought he could really Hoover the nostril gospel you should see what he does to a family feast.

Is there anyone grubbier than a ‘friend’ who takes photos of someone perhaps not in one of their finest moments, and then releases it publicly?

Out and out grubs. Just like the media that feeds off them.
Couldn't agree with you more.

In saying that, Latrell is very much a public figure. People like him need to act as though they are being filmed 24 hours a day.

Shitty act from the mate for sure, but that in no way makes what Latrell is, allegedly, doing OK - I won't get into a "legalisation" discussion (full disclosure: I am a user of medical marijuana) as it detracts from the topic at hand.

Footy players KNOW they're constantly in the limelight and being watched and scrutinised by the public (in this case, a so-called mate). It was a boneheaded decision to, allegedly, put himself in that position in the first place so I have absolutely no sympathy for him.

And yes, I would feel the same way if it was just weed. These guys are paid a lot so the payoff of not being able to, allegedly, get on the nose beers (or any not-socially-accepted drug) in public (or even at a private function with a lot of people) is a pretty minor inconvenience imo.
