bevan is the best one day batsman ever.

If that's how he's rated, then he is over-rated.

A very fine player coming in at 6 or 7. Has dragged Aust through on numerous occasions due to intelligent batting. But there have been many better one-day batsmen - much ismade of his wonderful average, but he bats low and has many n/o s.

How come he is the only no. 6 or 7 batsman in one-day history to have benefitted like that? Most players coming in down the order have lower averages if anything. It doesn't make sense to say not outs have boosted his average, because no other player in the entire history of one-day cricket has managed to do the same thing. Bevan is a statistical phenomenon, his record is unparalleled. Best ODI bat ever IMO.

Beven is overrated and I think for the good of Australian cricket he should be dropped. In the last 2-3 years he has lost us about 6 matches due to him protecting his average.

I can't stand watching 1dayer's when Martyn and Beven are at the crease together. #-o

Going all the way back to season 2001/02, which was the the VB series where we missed the finals, Bevan has played in 54 games of which we have won 43 and lost 11. I can really see how Bevan is to blame for 54% of our losses

Beven has only saved Australia on about 3-4 occasions in his whole career, I challenge anyone who could name more than that.

Off the top of my head I could name 3 matches where his slow batting and him protecting his average have lost us matches. I could find more if I have to.

Do it then.

Start with 6 from the last 2-3 years and and then go through his career and tell us the rest.

And still waiting :whistle

Bevan is a great player, and his record speaks for himself. The one problem is including him in a very successful side. There is little point with him batting 6-7 at all with Symonds and Clarke at your disposal. Lehmann will always be in the side as his one-day record is outstanding both domestically and internationally. So the only other person is Martyn and that is where I actually believe he should be, however the selectors will not agree. You have one "slower" batsman in your side and at the moment that is martyn, bevan despite his record has to be left out. But he is not overated by any accounts!
