Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

That was seriously funny , He really does come across as a angry little man in his interviews.

No wonder the Sharks' victory song surprised him. He didn't hear it many times in his last couple of years there

In general I think a lot of coaches need a kick up the backside for the way they handle post match interviews.

If they are getting the mega bucks like they are then they should be professional in the way the go about those post match interviews.

A lot of them are just pathetic how they handle them.

Agree. And I know sponsors would prefer a more professional public face when their logo is splashed all over the coach talking BS and generally being a dick like Rick does every time he loses.

When he wins, he can't wait to stride in and say how great his side is and how his half-time talk turned things around and they're a proud group, without big Origin representation etc. Then when they lose, he goes mute and says 'it doesn't matter what I think'. Well not in the scheme of life it doesn't Ricky but it wouldn't kill you to not be a trackhead and just say that you might've almost got away with one on the Fifita no try.

God I love when this thread gets bumped. Generally means Sticky is sad. Has his mate Bulldog Ritchie retracted his comments about how a couple of wins earlier in the season proved he's one of the game's best coaches?

It's great because the butt hurt from Parramatta fans hasn't died down at all.

I can understand that.

Raiders fans (please note before I go on, I like you)...how do you feel about Ricky at this stage? Does the 2-7 home record provide some worry? That's a hellishly bad record for a side notoriously difficult to beat down there.

Our home record had gone to shit before Ricky arrived. He inherited a jank squad and has done a A+ job in clearing out the plodders and recruiting in key positions. Just the fact he fixed our problems at hooker we've had for over a decade instantly puts him above Furner and co.
His biggest problem is his stubbornness which seem him persist with stupid tactics like kicking early and the problems with our horrible edge defence.
I'm up and down as the weeks go but happy to see where he takes the team next year. I still think a director role would suit him more.

I feel that he's done a better than expected job in terms of recruitment which has been a massive issue for us over the years. He's gotten rid of a lot of the dead wood a lot of us wanted gone.

There are obviously some ongoing issues with defensive structures and individual performances, but on the whole I enjoy watching this team more than I did a David Furner coached team.

I think he has done a great job !!!! but he still has the same Ricky flaws. He is stubborn and tries to be too clever. So he will come up with a game plan that might sound good in theory but in practice is dumb but because he is so invested in it working he sticks to it like glue. Kicking early being the prime example.

That said his recruitment has been excellent, he has been pretty good at clearing out the deadwood and has learnt from his mistakes at Parra. Even putting a few "borderline" players on contracts while he searched out replacements. He didn't just say Josh McCrone you're cut like he did at Parra he was like hmmm well Josh McCrone stinks but lets find someone to replace him first because its not that hard to offload bad players these days.

So I think Stuart has reinvented himself a bit with Canberra. The Raiders play positive football and he is much better with man management by the look of things. He is still a stubborn and bad tempered though so hes not perfect.

In short if he can't get the results over the next two years and the Raiders want to bring another coach in I would love Stick to stay on as a director of football type role.
