I assume a player agent is the mediator between player and TPA. Club Is 50k short of what Maloney asked for due to cap pressures. Maloney agrees to Club’s offer only when it’s confirmed that TPA can make up that shortfall. As long as club takes no part in finding/arranging TPA, it’s all above board.

more likely it was part of the $150k club related tpa as why would it make any difference to if he signed that contract or one with someone else if it was an arms length one?

That’s always the suspicion. We need more clubs like Parra that leave an easy investigatable paper trail.

The figures are a sad reflection on how we don’t sell our stars very well and how they are not household names attractive to majors companies for promotion. Maybe players will one day learn that if they behave like dckheads they are hurting each other’s earning power?

surprised storms is still so high after the loss of slater and cronk who would have been major recipients. Roosters doing a terrible job promoting their star players if this tiny figure is true.

Wouldn’t hurt if the players learn how to talk either. I thought clubs gave players media training these days?

Hmm, yeah nah. TPA not meant to be anything to do with the club, certainly not an enticement to play for them. Maloney put his foot in it.

If you still believe clubs aren't rorting the TPA deals, arranging them themselves as a replacement for cap wages then as the old saying goes, I have a bridge to sell you, it's on special at the moment as it's christmas.

Of course I don’t but all you have is assumptions which the NRL can’t act on. Only when clubs like Parra are dumb enough to leave a paper trail can they do anything.

Panthers seems high compared to other sydney clubs. Wonder if LC suppliers are in those tpa deals? I know that it can’t be related to nrl club but does that extend to can’t be related to LC operations I wonder?

Would be the link to the bush. Club has sponsors due to it. No doubt players do too

Companies would have all sorts of legit reasons to only want to sign players from certain clubs. For starters what city/state/country a player is going to play out of would be a huge factor, as would the performance of their prospective club on and off the field (a club that has a history of player behavioural incidents would struggle, for example).

So a player moving from one club to another might not affect a TPA if both clubs are in a similar position. But a player who is tossing up between multiple clubs in different cities or different positions on the ladder would absolutely have to also think about what TPAs will be realistically available at those clubs.

If a TPA is used to entice a player to sign with a club

Eg the example that there is a $50k shortfall

Then by the NRL rules that TPA must be included in the cap

The bullshit meter is well into the red on this one
Nick and his wealthy golfing buddies keep losing their bets on the golf course to Roosters. The NRL has already said that these are not able to be policed and are not illegal under the present system.
That’s how you can get a squad like the Roosters under the cap, as they earn more playing golf than they do football!
