The NRL is not a magistrate. Its not a footy issue.

If the Sharks feel that having him in the squad is detrimental to their brand, then sack him. But he shouldn't be punished for the same thing twice.

I have a question for you Bunniesman.

Player A - Plays for a wealthy club, assaults a woman on a night out. Club gives the lady 100k to keep it quiet and no one knows a thing.

Player B - High profile player has lots of money, beats his wife but settles it outside of court with money similar to player A.

Player C - Young player/fringe first grader hasn't earnt much money yet, assaults a woman. She takes him to court he gets found guilty and is de-registered from the NRL.

Where's the justice in that? I don't feel sorry for Player C he only has himself to blame but there's no equality. You're just giving incentive to players to be even more corrupt and deluded them with thoughts that they are untouchable.

Should we really just put our heads in the sand, de-register anyone who gets caught just so we can be perceived more positively amongst certain groups? I think it stinks of reactive, negative behaviour.

Why bother putting together a sensible arguments pointing out differing circumstances?
BM wants all woman bashers banned that aren't named Greg Inglis.

A contract with a club is no different to a contract with a business. There is a basic character requirement.

BunniesMan's logic leads to the following conclusion: it's ok for a player to hit a female if that player plays for (past/present/future) Souffs.

Bunniesman logic also leads to the conclusion that he wants male NRL players to fear females so he can have them all to himself.

Metcalf was a long time ago. I spose it comes down to how long you continue to punish someone for the one crime they committ. If you stop former criminals from trying to earn a living then they're going to have no choice but to keep committing crimes in order to survive.
FFS. What does hitting a woman have to do with "surviving". If he was caught robbing a petrol station in his teens to feed himself, then you'd have a point. But what he did had nothing to do with "surviving".

The NRL or someone involved in it could have used their contacts to find him a real job somewhere on a building site or something. That way he would have been able to "survive" and not given a high profile dream job that should be treated as a privelige given to those who behave themselves, not as a right given to anyone with a shred of talent.

Completely wrong as usual.

I was 100% supportive of us giving Vaivai the sack when he found himself in court for similar reasons.

I said at the time he should have been banned and not been allowed to be picked up by another club with less morals.

Your club has inglis, who bashed his missus. You cannot take a moral high ground here

She grabbed his car keys and the pair wrestled, with Ms Davison landing on a mattress on the floor.

I wonder if this is how she got pregnant in the first place?

i dont get what the big deal is... the courts have dealt with it..

Move on...

the NRL is a sporting organisation... they have no business getting involved if the matter is dealt with by the courts.

id love to see them try it... they would get taken to the f**king cleaners for millions...

It's more a social comment on the topic at hand than a direct comparison of the situations. Obviously what he did was a dog act but the courts have dealt with it like they should but that doesn't mean we should be restricting people's right to earn a living on top of whatever punishment he's given.

Hopeless ignorance.

Asking about convictions is a common interview question. People get sacked for committing a crime all the time.

The NRL is allowed to set it's own rules and employ anyone they like and ban anyone they like for legitimate reasons. A criminal conviction is a "legitimate reason".

I have never ever been asked about criminal convictions for any interview or position i have applied for.

Just because they asked you in your interview to become a transit cop, doesnt mean it happens everywhere

So let me get this right ...
BM wants the NRL to deregister this dude for a crime he commited
outside of work .
Yet the NRL are cool to let clubs caught cheating still be involved.

actually no, it's quite legitimate in employment law to have a good character clause that can lead to termination from employment if the offence is serious enough to damage the reputation of the company or if it effects the safety or performance of the job holder and or their colleagues.

The NRL isn't just a sporting organisation, its a multi million $ business that has a responsibility to protect its brand and image. The business is trying to attract more female customers and regularly spruks itself as the family game and anti violence to women. To then have one of its high profile employees committ such an offence is well within termination grounds I would think.

What they do need is very clear and objective policies on expected behaviour of players and then have the gumption to stick to their policies regardless of who that player is. They have set precedents of banning players when found guilty of this type of offence, yet have let other ones get away with it so who knows what they'll do.
