Have been mulling this one over for a day or 2 now, where does everybody stand on his future in the black and white ?

Personally, although he has plenty of ability (which has been absent over the past year or so), I wouldn't mind if we wiped our hands of the bloke in the Kiwi jersey for a year or 2

His admission on the weekend that he was trying to break Chase's leg has sent me this way, it is an embarassment to the jersey to have a guy out there doing that kind of rubbish, especially after the warning given over his other 2 average tackles the weeks prior

Leuluai playing 80 or with Fien covering on the bench will do me until a point where it seems Luke has grown up and discovered a few brain cells

Are rather saddened by it all, I was a former huge fan of Luke. I really thought he was going to go from strength to strength and be one of our stars of the future.
Now- I'm more than happy for him to be snubbed for the Kiwi jersey. IMO he's a liability, an onfield grub, and to be blunt, a little dickhead.
He needs to be told to bugger off and come back when he's a big boy, can listen to his coach and follow instructions, and do the right thing by the team- play hard but fair.
Was staggered to learn Kearney had a talk to him before the tourno began, telling him he needed to step up and be a role model for the new young ones (Luke radio interview, just prior to the first game), and Kearney spoke to him again prior to the England game, telling him to keep himself in check.

Just can't believe the guy. His antics involving his manager are somewhat head scratching as well...he doesn't seem all there tbh!

I hear what you're saying Beave -- but it takes some courage to admit something as disgusting as he he did. I'm more interested in how he responds, tbh.

Well he had 2 chances to respond post the Newcastle debacle, 3rd time lucky perhaps ?

Ha! I hear what you're saying -- but I disagree with those who think completing a tackle around the legs is thuggery (in a missile type way, or otherwise), perhaps to my own detriment.

I think it takes idiocy. Why did he admit he was trying to break his leg? Absolutely no need.

I wouldn't blacklist him..he clearly needs to grow up and cut the crap out of his game. No doubt he's hugely talented, just needs someone to tell him to pull his head in. Hopefully Maguire contributes to that.

Interestingly, I don't remember him being a grub a couple of years back. Seems to be something which has crept into his game more recently. I don't like (though can slightly understand) the fact that he puts it down to bleeding black and that stuff, but he needs to cut the grub shit out.

I'm sure the players/management have spoken to him about it. See how he goes this year with the Rabbits and judge it on that.

Obviously the act is idiotic. Him acknowledging that he 'lost it' and that he intends to remedy his behaviour is what I was referring to. It wasn't as though he was bragging.

Send a memo to him- focus on playing football and less on being a cheap grub. If he doesn't, his spot must be taken away. There's no doubting his talent, but his performance in this tournament was sub-par.

about as helpful as matai.

except matai can play, so his penalties aren't as bad for the team. but i also don't want to see him near the black and white again.

If he had've just said it was because he was angry at Chase for giving up the Kiwis jersey, fine. Not fine I suppose but understandable. But to say he was trying to break his leg? Stupid. Stupid in many senses. Reflects bad on him, the Kiwis and next time he goes to the judiciary I'd suggest that will be ringing in their ears.

That's pretty much exactly what he said. He mentioned how the playing group all got together before the game and talked about what the Kiwi jersey meant to them, and that they were going out to remind Rangi exactly that. He then he said he lost it, he was worried about what people would say to his kids, and that he has to stop grubby play because he doesn't want to be a grub. He was practically crying and showed genuine remorse IMO. Actually, he also said he went to see Rangi in the sheds after the game, and cried whilst apologising.

I'm not defending his actions -- they were disgusting.

Yeah, i'm with you on this. Give him next season to get his head sorted, then bring him back in 2013, ready to rip into the world cup.

I'd blacklist him...he has not responded to what the coach told him over the tourno and is a loose cannon atm. IMO he should be contacted, told he is out of the Kiwis in 2012, the reasons why, and wish him the best in fighting his way back into the side in 2013- with a new attitude.

No. Not fine at all. Appalling, immature, disgraceful. Not understandable in the slightest.
Go out and put some big hits on. Don't intentionally injure someone.
We now have the dubious honour of one of the dirtiest players- and one who's happy to admit it.
He should be gone.:x

He is just very lucky Chase stood up and played on. If he had gone off injured it could have been a whole different outcome.

Deserves some time off.

Drop him for 2012 and let him earn his spot again the year after. Don't care that we'll be short at hooker in the anzac test next year (TL and Heremaia both in the UK so presumably won't be called for that match - although hopefully Seluini or Mara can push on and provide an option with Fien for that game), and we won't be for the end of year stuff. Come 2013 he'll either have cut that crap out or we'll be better off for giving other guys a run in the meantime.. it's not like Luke has reached his best Souths form for NZ.
