Has the sharks redevelopment been knocked on the head then because I thought they were getting a new stand along with new apartments being built nearby?
nope no new stand. They are getting a refurb of the leagues club and a couple of hundred uncovered extra seats. A very long way from what that ground needs.

We've only really got Sharks, Manly, Wests (could be fixed with a move to Bankwest permanently), Dragons and maybe panthers still playing at sub par stadiums (any coincidence they are all Sydney clubs). Any one them would do fine in Singapore or Gosford :)

Rumour has it that there's talks of Campbelltown being upgraded to a mini BankWest style (20k capacity) or a new stadium entirely built at Liverpool to be shared between Wests and Canterbury. The Campbelltown one has the enticement of an existing ground to be built upon and the co-funding of the FFA as the Bulls would be co-tenants. I mean, that would involve the NRL giving a f**k about the Macarthur region.

Why prop up your competitor when it’s on its arse?
1. Credit is cheap at the moment.
2. Rugby Australia will be private equity funding. They always fk over their investments.
3. We take their profits that would otherwise be reinvested into their grass roots.
4. Creates more revenue for NRL and can open up hybrid games or games with all blacks which could be as lucrative as SOO.

Downside is that money could be pissed away, but it's worth the punt imo. We already squandered money pre covid, this at least has some upside.

thing is if you are going to pry a player away from a club youhave to offer more than their current club who would be desperate for them to stay. No way Warriors are letting Walsh go without a fight, same with Munster. Youd be over $1mill for Munster where as hes probably on $900k now, Hughes would be on around $600k, Grant $700k, Pappa around $600k.
To get Walsh would probably take $800k plus,
Munster $1mill plus
Walker good luck but easily in the $700-800k if not more given he is the Roosters future
Grant $800k plus
You'd be looking at $3.5mill plus to buy that spine.
Grant aside the other 3 are marquee players now or of the future for their existing clubs.
walsh 800K ??
lol
you're insane
hes 19 & has played about 15 NRL games only
Walker is still an emerging talent too

500 to 600K for both & considering its a new club in their old backyards the motivation will be there to take money like that too initially
Munster 1 million odd
Grant 800K

under or around 3 million
its doable

Stadiums don't equal fans. See titans.

I still say ship the Cowboys off to Singapore. Nobody gives a shit about them except for some bumpkins and hicks in FNQ. Any of those we lose will be more than offset by all the new Singaporean fans we'll get. Win Win!!
Cowboys are one of the most watched teams across Australia.

They can still be one of the most watched teams while playing out of Singapore.

Townsville has population of less than all catchments for Sydney teams. Sharkies the team you want to move has about 250k just in Sutherland area. Plus travel costs are zero for most opponents. More I think about it about - Cows should be first to move for Singapore.
What about titans relocate to Taiwan

I would add south’s and the warriors to your list as well.

Totally agree with you about manly. The NRL should have said it’s either the central coast or the NSW cup.
South Sydney are the largest club in Sydney. They just need to figure out which ground to adopt. I think SFS and Stadium Australia.

Warriors are safe and vital to the competition. Without them we lose the NZ broadcast rights and a market of 5m.

I'm not convinced that we need a club in Southern Sydney. Surely the Rabbitohs could absorb that region into their catchment and possibly become as big as the Broncos over the next 20 or 30 years.

The inner-west and Macarthur need one strong team. Two shit ones cannibalising one another is doing more harm than good and will help GWS Giants gain a following amongst kids.

Manly should relocate to Central Coast. It'll be great for the CRL and provide Manly with a decent venue.

They're not the Townsville Cowboys

This sort of cognitive dissonance is why I think Sydney RL fans are not fit to run the game. They want Sutherland to have a team because it has 250k residents, but wouldn't entertain the idea of larger cities in SEQ having one.

The population of Logan is almost 330k and set to reach 500k over the next 20 years, but any team here will struggle like the Sharks.

There's no reason for Logan or Sutherland to have their own teams in a national competition because they will not have mass appeal across the country. Let them field teams in the state competitions.
