It would be great if in 2010 everything came together

I warn you that this is a very optimistic thread (Karmawave there is no need to post here :p)

The general feeling I get from knights fans on here is that 2010 will be a season of unknowns. Will the team make the top 4? Will the team scrape into the 8? Will we end up near the lower end of the table? 2010 atm is a season of uncertainty. But what would happen if everything clicked for us? Below is a very optimistic stance, but how good would it be if it worked out!

1. Gidley - recaptures his 2008 form
2. Mcmanus - recaptures his form just before injury. He was killing it in regards to making tough meters and being incredibly safe against the kick.
3. Sau - Continues playing his lethal running game, but is now able to set up his winger with an offload or pass.
4. Macdougall - Plays just like he did last season, except receives more ball. (Sorry Alex, I know you wanted Doogs to retire after last year)
5. Vuna - Becomes consistent with his big hits and damaging runs.
6. Mullen - Goes from inconsistent, to playing his good games on a weekly basis.
7. Dureau - Plays in the Cooper Cronk mould, letting Mullen play a 5/8 role whilst dureau does the organising and adds polish to the team with a consistently strong kicking game.
8. Tuimavave - Him and Cross could make us very dangerous during the first 25 minutes of matches.
9. Degoise - Improves his consistency and continues his good dummy half running.
10. Cross - Doesn't get injured and is the forward leader that we know he is capable of.
11. Simpson - Strings games together and plays near what we know he is capable of when fit.
12. Taia - Continues his 09 form
13. Paterson - He has shaken off the baby fat and has the build for a quality lock or 2nd rower. If he improves his workrate then WATCH OUT!

14. Taufua - His running game improved from 08 to 09. If it improves again, combined with his great defence he will be an asset.
15. Tolar - Turns back the clock to the days when he had a quality and regular offload, whilst continuing to offer plenty of mobility in defence.
16. Fa'aoso - Plays like he did in 09 and continues to improve his handling. His offloads in 2010 could also be a big plus
17. Hilder - When he comes on will make plenty of tackles allowing the other forwards to be fresher in attack. His attack improves and becomes more of a ball playing lock. He also covers for injuries in the backline.

I like the sound of this BIHK :)

Not quite my exact lineup (though we all will have our slightly different ones), but on the whole a good summary!

My way of thinking is that we've got all our bad luck out of the way early (Wicks/House, Gidley and others injured etc) and we have another good year and make the 8 again. Would be very happy with that :D

I don't get why everyone is automatically written us off. They have done so since before Houston left the club. People seem to have completely forgotten about what we achieved last year, and what we possibly could have done with some stability in the club in the second half of last season. We could have quite easily have been top 4 last year.

The disappointing thing I guess is that any gains we have made this year will probably result in us maintaining our position in the field rather than moving us forward. All being right getting Tuimavave and having Pato come back should have moved us forward to contenders rather than having us potential top 8. It is a great shame.

We'll make the 8. We'll surprise a few people but for those in the know it wont be a surprise.

All of that would be terrific and I am all for optimism. Talk about a baptism of fire for our new coach. If he can turn all of the negativity into motivation and get our not too shabby team competetive then he will be on the way to legendary status.

But my opinion, I will be a happy fan if our team just gives it all, play themselves to a standstill and let the opposition teams know they have played a game of league. Hurt them, biff them if need be. Then we give our team a standing ovation as they stagger from the field.

Romanticly fanciful first post but hey....................

I see that the baptism of fire was last year - inheriting a team jaded by the defection of Brian Smith and getting them in to the finals. He has nothing to prove. He can do the job that is in front of him.

I dont really get the whole "wooden spoon" tag...

Pretty much the same team as last year, dominated the first half of the season before falling away with injuries and the coaching drama, yet still made the 8.

This year, we have a few off field dramas and lose 2 players who will hardly determine our season and all of a sudden people think we will get the spoon. I like it! No pressure, no expectations.. creep under the radar like last year and continue to smash the heavyweights week in and week out.

We have a top 4 side here... possibly top 2. Unlike the other 15 clubs we dont need to go out and buy everyone on the market. We already have the cattle to compete with the best.

2010 = Premiers

Indeed I am!

However that's how I feel at the beginning of every season:D!!! I think BIHK is beginning to understand the beauty that is my mind:crazy:
by beauty you mean creepy... circus... labyrinth...?

honestly, the only thing stopping us doing well this year is our troops mental state. premiership contenders - probably not unless rick stone shoots magic rainbows out his arse. there's no reason why we can't be competitive and make the finals again, though. there's no reason why we can't improve on last year, either.

Its all up to Mr Stone.

There is no question everything you have described above can happen. We were contenders at stages last year, there is no reason at all why we cant be again. Imo, if stone can get our half back to just organise and kick well, we will go a long way to making all of the rest of those things happen.

Just thought I'd add to this thread with some of the current odds for this season:

Sportsbet has us at $2.78 to make the 8, with only the Warriors, Raiders and Sharks below us.

They have us at $1.40 to miss the 8, with again the same teams more likely.

They have us at $3.25 to get the spoon, shortest odds of any team (wish there was a market to *not* get the spoon, would be some easy $$$ to be made there!)

And finally, other betting agencies have us as high as $4.71 to beat the Dogs this weekend, with the shortest odds for the Dogs being $1.20, and a 12 point head start the most common handicap. Could be worth a bet on Dogs 1-12, as Sportsbet has that at $3.20, or on us with that 12 point head start!

All in all it looks like people are very much underestimating us, which is partly understandable given the happenings of late, but I'd do it AFTER we fail for the first few rounds!

Can look back on some of these numbers later on in the season should things go pretty well for us this year :)

Just thought I'd do a bit of an update on this...after Round 1 we are still favourites for the spoon at $3.40, and have SHORTENED to $1.25 to miss the 8  with only the Sharks with $1.20 more likely.

Though having said that, our odds to make the 8 have been shortened as well ($2.35), so I imagine at least some of this is due to the 'uncertainty' surrounding the club.
