Hello all. I'm helping the FIRL/Italia RL promote to Australia/English sources. I'll be updating information + news throughout the near and distant future.

DOMESTIC TEAMS FOR 2010

"So to specify it better there're 4 teams that are 90% confirmed:
- Padova (we don't know at the moment if Nafit will keep sponsorship or not - I suppose not but...)
- Silea Treviso: this is a new team
Both these two are from the core of rugby in Italy, Benetton Treviso and Petrarca Padova are two of the best teams of Union and together they have won 25/80 championships.
Alongside with them we might have a third team based in Monselice, but this is a bit more far to be sure.
- Gladiators Roma: this is a new team two times at the start in the previous temptative of a domestic comp (2004..or whatsoever and 2007)
- Spartans Catania (in Sicily Island): also this one is a new entry that will feature also Jhonny Grasso an Aussie Italian player that performed well in the Euro Cup
These two teams could be joined by a secon roman team involving people from l'Aquila
Both Catania and l'Aquila have a strong connection with Rugby.

More to these 4 - 6 teams we are working to deliver some new one in other areas, as Milan, Florence, Genova and Torino but still there're just some one interest and not a defined group. We will keep trying."

News was comfirmed by a FIRL mermber.

Rugby League from when the FIRL started has been based in Northern Italy, so Rome + Southern Italy/Sicily is the next option.

Am I to understand that there are 4 domestic teams, with only two rounds of matches to be played (?) then semis and then the final?

Well so far Padova, Treviso, Roma Gladiators, Catania Spartans are 4 confirmed
Based on that information they are aiming for another 2 teams (either in North Italy or l'Aquila (region - Abruzzo) for 2010.

1. 19/06/2010 qualifying
2. 26/06/2010 qualifying

All teams would be playing those rounds.

Than I assume the best 4 play the semis on the 10/11th of July. And than Final.

Too pity that La Rocca XIII, Mastini XIII and Piemonte XIII are not "again" in Italian championship!

Yeah this year the comp is a bit more spread out. Padova were 2009 champions.

They stopped or havent started promotion as they don't know if they will be in the Euro Cup or Euro Shield this year as the RLEF deciding or looking over the report. Their could be another International event/match for Italy in Sept as well - yet to ne confirmed however.

That is excellent.

Too bad the domestic comp in Italy is pretty much a mini-tournament. I would love to see something substantial.

Nafit will sponsor Padova again this year, while Catania will sign a deal with another sponsor to try to cover any travel fees.
The FIRL + the teams are working to achieve other sponsors to build up a decent financial coverage. Hoping to cover it all.
They are waiting for confirmation by television broadcastasters also - increase appeal of RL and awareness in Italy.

Yeah, he'll be playing this year and travelling over for quite a few months for all the Italia RL events. Last year he was injured. He's on fb if required.

A new "Piazzola Padova RL XIII" Logo will be finished soon - they are the defending Italian Champions and this is due to also getting a better/upgraded sponsor.

A 5th domestic team also will be confirmed to based in "Monselice - Padova region". This team will keep the "Mastini" name as Mastini XIII and La Rocca merge/fuse together (majority of players are from Mastini).

A 6th team is still to be added for the July/August Comp.

That currently makes it as 3 confirmed teams in the state of "Veneto" - in the North East, one in Rome (Central), one in Sicily (Southern) and one potentially added to the North/NorthWest.

That is a good suggestion.

At RLP the guy there does that for each nation, so I could get him to do the same for Italy (once the 6th team is confirmed).
