A try is hystorical in that in the old days a Try only gave you a 'try' at goal, not points. It then was changed that a try gave you 3 points and that has been changed since. Its why you have conversions. The conversion is actually what used to be important.
You and I both know that, but the American sports fans the new league will have to attract to make a go of it don't know it and will never care. They've all grown up with American football and its' terminology, and no doubt every American who could be attracted to the game we both love already has a favourite NFL or NCAA team. Were I in David Nui's shoes I'd be targetting the millions of Americans who like football, not the paltry numbers who are involved in RU. Get them to imagine football played without huddles, blocking or forward passing but with 4 times the offence they'd see in an NFL or NCAA game and the sky could well be the limit.

don't get too excited....it's updated, but only showing info on upcoming tournaments. Better than nothing I guess.

on a personal note...after years of reading this forum, almost daily...bit the bullet and signed up :)

I must be missing something.
This is just ONE PAGE with links to other websites ie Big Pond,4 Nations and the RLEF sites.

Very lazy effort...clubs put more effort into their sites than this.:x

That would take less than five minutes to produce and put on line.

Ditto wain. Welcome to the boards. We don't bite, well except for spud but he's a Lancastrian so it's understandable. ;-)

It's interesting that the Americans are talking about changing terms such as tackle=down, try=touchdown, etc etc - and i saw a really bad american movie about Union last night and they have renamed hooker to simply hook.
I can see why the Americans are doing it, but it could lead to confussion in the future.

I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing for the Americans to apply their own terminology to the game, if it adds to their "ownership" of the game. Afterall, there are different terminologies used between Australia and England, e.g., Five Eighth c Stand Off, Lock c Loose Forward.

Certainly, the terms "touchdown" and "down" would be easily understood by an American audience. If they want to call the hooker , "hook", I say go for it. I'll go so far as to say they should apply their own terminologies. I therefore propose that wingers should become "wide receivers", half backs become "quarter backs". Would props become "tight ends"? What other suggestions could you suggest to "Americanise" the game?

I'll go even further to suggest that the Americans should rename Rugby League "American Rugby", to distinguish it from "English rugby" as union in that country was previously known.
