I just get really annoyed when I look around at the other clubs rosters.

There isn't a player on our team that get's me excited. This will be the same with thousands of Canberran's, with the attendences to show.

I'll predict an average crowd this year of around 8k.

I really expected the slating the Raiders were given this year was going to encourage them, unfortunately it was like they accept it.

the age old battle of the posos vs the negos

maybe the reason Canberra fans seem to be all on the 'blind faith' side is that Canberra is such a great city it gives everyone a rosey outlook on life

*puts nego hat on*
or maybe its because most of the negos have given up on the raiders over the last decade, so the chronic posos are most of whats left

Settle down mate, it's the first real game of the season with a brand new team and a brand new coach played in miserable and sh*tty conditions.

Given the club's lack of ability to retain quality players I am personally grateful that these guys have come here, and it saddens me to personally know that some of the guys do read what is said here and talk like yours is representative of what the more "devoted" fans have to say about thier team.

well said, give the blokes chance. i too was disappointed, but i believe there is better things ahead for us.

Sad but true. I expected to see them fired up, instead many of them were like deers caught in headlights, scared and unsure who to turn to, particularly once the points started piling up against them.

I agree with this point and this was the most worrying aspect and if they turn up their toes against the Storm, then the scoreline could be anything.

This is the first year since I started supporting the Raiders that I go into a match/season thinking we can't win. Every other year I have always held the belief we werre capable of beating any side but not this year. We will win some but a few sides are out of our reach IMO.

We have plenty of players that have the potential to be exciting they just need confidence. Carney has the ability to be the next Fittler, he just needs to back himself more and get more involved.

Ease up people.

It is bloody round 1!

I agree with Thickos post. A real positive was that we didn't get opened up. That is a solid base to work from. If we can get our ball handling under control then we'll compete a lot better.

We really lacked the leadership from the back, which I actually thought wasn't going to be too much of an issue but it was. Chalky was never in position, although I do agree with whoever said the wingers need to help out the fullback. Even with that in mind, Chalky is now not mobile enough to sweep in behind the line, he's too bulky. Zillman would have been better suited to that in the wash up and clean up the grubbers in behind the line. Hypothetically, if we didn't concede off kicks then we are talking about a 6 point ball game I think.

I was impressed with Logan. He could be a real Adamson type player for us. Overall though, the forwards struggled more than I thought. I was certain they'd take it to the Manly pack but they just struggled. I say go back to fundamentals this week against Melbourne. Anything else will result in us being beaten comprehensively. Lets forget round 1 and start again showing the defence from the Manly game and safety first footy with the ball. No point going crazy with the ball unless we have the foundation set. If we can at least push Melbourne then that is something to get excited about and give the young guys confidence.

This weekend Carney and Dobbo have to really hit the mark with their kicking games. Against Manly it was just straight to Stewart or too long. We have to make teams play, especially considering that we are quite solid in defence for the most part.

I was most disappointed that Henry dropped Zillman for Howell. That was ridiculous if you ask me. Howell didn't even play a trial did he? How anyone in the Raiders coaching ranks thought it was a better idea to play a 50% Howell over a 100% Zillman will be a mystery for eternity. That was a massive mistake. Not saying it would have changed the result, it wouldn't have, but Howell came in underdone and it showed. He only made 5 of 21 attempted tackles I read, which is poor in anyones terms. Also, a Howell - Best combo in defence is like waving a red rag to a bull, never again I say. Neither can defend at all, but we already knew that.

But hey, as has been mentioned, we always knew it was going to be a struggle first up. We'll be right, I know we will. Just need time is all. No point whinging about the standard of footy after 1 away game in the rain, against a settled side, with a team developing. It will come, be patient.

just watched the game again and honestly we did not play that bad. In fact we were pretty even with manly for the first half, we just had no execution. They got away from us in the 2nd half, and our lack of experience and direction showed.

I'd have to agree with you mate.

What really scares me are our centres/wings ... I cant see anything in our three-quarters that makes me go WOW!! ... Graham is nearest to it but he was underused against Manly. It's pretty simple .. if you cant score tries you're not going to win too many games.

We will match them in the forwards on most occassions but quite frankly if you cant take advantage of that with some strike power out wide you may as well book for the early holiday come seasons end.

I'd be surprised if we win more than 6 games this season.

Henry leaving out the likes of Zillman for Howell brings back memories of another coach ... cant understand the thinking behind this move ... what the hell does Howell have to do wrong and what does Zillman have to achieve before he is considered a certainty around the selection table.

And as for that over-rated hooker ... the least the ...

GO THE RAIDERS !!

The Zillman saga is starting to piss me off. Even on NRL on Fox last night he was one of the players highlighted. Can't think of another NRL club that would not have given him more game time by now. Obviously the position which he is ultmately best suited is the key, personally I think it is in the halves, and maybe they are waiting to see how Dobson and Carney go, but looking at our backs last week it's hard to comprehend his continued ommission. Will be a great disappointment if he doesn't come up to NRL level but let's find out sooner rather than later. Bench doesn't appear an option either as Dunneman looks to be favoured in that spot.

I agree. I think it's better to chuck Zillman in now, whilst the expectations for the team are low anyway. What do we have to lose?

Once Goodwin comes back, and if Zillman hasn't been given a run by then, when is he ever? Will he have to wait for a severe injury crisis in the backs?

Let's not forget this guy scored 5 tries in a PL match last year. He's got some quality to him, even if it will take a while to adjust to NRL quality.

Stop wasting him!

He'll start fullback tomorrow night. Not an ideal team to give a guy a go at FB but if you want to play in NRL then you have to be up for it regardless. Here's hoping he plays well.
