I cant imagine we would have thrown too much at him, but a good buy in my opinion.

We better not have thrown too much at him. We've got Gorrell, Young and George on the books, and we go and buy a bloke that is on the sideline with a shoulder injury, is well known to the judiciary and is getting on in years.
I'm sorry, but I just can't see the point in the purchase.
There are already players on our books that we should be resigning before we worry about the likes of Woolford. :(

^ Agreed.

Waste of money in my opinion.

What about buying a young 5/8, or 1/2 to cover our paper thin depth?

It's easy to speculate, but I'd love to get an idea on the $$$ they have signed him for. does anyone have an idea what he was on at the raiders///

I doubt it was much. Either way, he is signed and we just have to accept it and find the positives. Could be another astute bargain buy a la Matt Bickerstaff/Albert Torrens or a disaster like John Cross/Nathan Long.

If we signed him for what he's worth, then it is most likely a 'Work for the dole' scheme.

Oh btw, I say he leaves the Germ nickname in Canberra. When he puts on the red v, he becomes Ricky Woolford.

I hope they signed him on matches played. He spends more time in front of the judiciary than on the paddock.I guess Gorrell's face doesn't fit, and he kicks goals too. :sarcasm:

whispers have approx $ 90,000 sign on, with $4,000 / top grade game, so he has the potential to earn approx : $ 180,000

Woolford is a great signing at the money reported.

Young is a makeshift hooker and we suffer from slow service out of dummy half. Young is an awesome backrower and can play a number of positions well, but hooker is such a crucial spot you need a specialist hooker. Gorrell has played wonderfully for us this year from the bench. However he has never performed as well in the starting team, he just doesn't have the minutes in him to be a starting hooker. I would doubt there would be many clubs out their willing to discard their starting hooker for Gorrell.

With Bailey leaving we will be short a bit of mongrel in the pack. Woolford is a tough uncompromising type of player that will tackle hard and provide some starch. If he has trouble with the judiciary or injury, he has only cost us 90K which is a steal.

In signing Woolford not only do we improve hooker but we vastly improve the backrow by moving Young back. This is like two signings in one.

Woolford may have had a lot of trouble with the judiciary, but i cast you back to a prop we had called Craig Smith.

Smith was a regular at the judiciary as well, and this forced him to leave us for England. He has now come back to play for the Knights, and it doesn't look like his judiciary troubles have followed him.

It is possible that the change of scenery/team might also help Woolford. Anyway, for $90,000 it's a pretty good gamble.

As a long time Raiders fan I would say Woolford is actually an exceptional player. At 90K he's an absolute bargain. Very underrated at the Raiders.
