Ivan sacked

?If you are calling re Ivan as you know we already have our coaching staff for next year so Ivan is not heading back to Mt Smart, cheers,? Warriors chief executive Jim Doyle said.

He only said next year...McFadden is contracted until 2017, correct? I still expect Ivan would be the next coach should McFadden bomb out.

Gould is also full of shit. And a complete muppet if he replaces him with Griffin, who couldn't do a thing with an all-star roster in Brisbane.

For me Ivan would be a backwards step.
It was under him that the 'brat pack' was spawned.
Plus he coached boring football. We deserve better.

So the 'brat pack' (presumably Mateo, Inu, Locke and co) was Ivan's fault? Granted he signed them, but didn't they make a GF with all three in the side?

You can say we deserve better but who's coming? We've had that head coaching role open for 4 years and we've managed to land three duds. Bellamy isn't coming. Bennett ain't coming. Hasler ain't coming. Is Toovey? Is anyone else with a better record than Ivan? Not to my knowledge.

If anyone finds making finals 'boring' then I really don't understand. Or maybe it's just me who found 8-6 v Melbourne (a cheating side, no less) and the Penrith epic of 2010 (I think) as absolutely scintillating, gutsy football. We had points in us too.

At the end of the day, either McFadden gets better and becomes the coach we need - and all the talk is null and void - or we need a new coach, for which I am certain Jim is doing a robust job on. He'll ask the heavy hitters, he'll speak to Ivan, and he'll sign the best one that is interested. If that's Ivan, so be it. If it's Justin Morgan, so be it. It won't be the f**king schemozzle that Scurrah performed in replacing Ivan with an unproven dud, then with a proven to be a dud, followed by another unproven that was re-signed despite not really proving he wasn't a dud.

We certainly deserve better than McFadden, Cleary is most certainly that.

Hard decisions need to be made, Doyle hopefully has the constitution for them... that said, I don't know whether the answer is Cleary or retaining McFadden - Cleary provides me with more confidence, he'd be our best coach since Cleary... but I'm not convinced he's the answer either

Gould did what the Warriors did, used Cleary to steady the ship which he is brilliant at BUT the guy flat out cant coach teams to be more than solid at best. Its not his go, he plugs holes, shifts players around, plays favorites and does not develop dynamic powerful structures.

Gould wants to win now. Cleary reached his potential and now he is out. Dont be stupid Warriors this would be a big step backwards.

I'm not saying Cleary is the absolutely ideal man on the planet to coach us either...lots of us would ideally marry Sofia Vergara but she's not turning up unclothed on the front step.

I'm just really strong about this whole thing because there's so many misconceptions about this guy.

To call him boring, we scored 504 points in 2011 - 30 less than Manly who scored the most. That's around a point per game. That year, Ivan had two dominant ball-playing halves and was able to play that style. We lost the GF to one of the great club dynasties. From 2006 onwards, he had the likes of Rovelli/Witt/Seymour etc. He played the style that fit the squad he was able to assemble. His sides have defensive mettle but they can also hit the scoreboard.

Would any of us doubt our ability to be a top four side next year under Ivan? Because I hear plenty of doubts about it under McFadden and given the strength of our roster there shouldn't be.

I wouldn't mind seeing what he could do with 1. RTS 6. Robson 7. Johnson 9. Luke and a competing, if not dominant pack. He got less than that to a GF in 2011 and a prelim last year.

So apparently he's given Griffin the job. That defines a step backwards.

I should give it a break, this whole thing just makes me hot as I rate Ivan really highly and he's been shafted twice. But suffice to say I am all for someone better being given the job...that wasn't the case when he left in 2011, it doesn't look to be the case at the Panthers and unless that someone now exists, we should welcome Ivan back with open arms.

Really comes down to whom is the better coach - McFadden or Cleary?
I know which one I'd pick between the two.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!! - NO NO NO - keep him away from the warriors, dont let him anywhere near the place. He cant coach progressive teams. He steadies ships and thats it. He has no capability what so ever to get a football side to the next level.

.

Yep, because we've been so good since he left...

Love that term 'progressive' - let's get Kim Dotcom and Laila Harre in to advise Doyle on leading a 'progressive' organisation

I think he'll be the next Tigers coach. Taylor is as good as gone and that club needs someone to dig them out of the mire.

I don't think our results will demand his signing next year. With Morgan now on staff and the roster we have, we'll make the 8 - and McFadden will keep his job.

Put down the crack pipe son

Tim Sheens is the Australian coach, it would be a significant upgrade.

Out of interest Mr Lion...if the Warriors start off abysmally next year and are something like 0-5, or out of the finals race by August again and McFadden is sacked...what would be your plan (presuming you would sack him)?

Mate, to be truthful, I dont think the warriors have been losing simply down to coaching. While McFadden does get the major fallback due to being the face of the franchise as the coach I actually believe it has been poor business decisions that have haunted the Warriors capabilities. Jobs for the boys, she's be right mentalities, branding first etc.

With Doyle having had a year to begin the weed out id expect we will be finishing top 6 - 8 next year with more backroom stability and accountability in line.

However if we were in situation as your example then Toovey would be my choice if he was still available. He would be burning from the Manly experience and given we cant pull power coaches here I believe he could bring an explosive attitude here we sorely need - he gets aggro and he understands as a ex-halfback the requirements we need to play attacking structured football. He has the personality and with Stacey Jones would install the type of strategic game we could thrive off.

Toovey in my mind has the most potential to offer of the current available options.

that last bit you said reminds me of scurrah accepting medicocrity, make the 8 and ur ok. thats whats been wrong with the place
i suspect doyle is expecting top 4, anything less with the resources, talent and depth we have will and should be a bit below par. If we limp into the 8 or finish 7th then there is a problem
