Bird has been playing like a busted.

But we have lost a lot of class with Benny and Ennis and if we are any chance of winning this year we need all of our xfactor types to step up. Bird was one of our best in last years gf and has it in him.

If we are any chance of b2b, we need all of our remaining 'stars' firing for the finals. We can't afford to have Bird sulking in the stands.

A little stats to add to our discussion of the mighty Jack Bird. Stats from NRL.com with comparison to other centres from teams/around in the 8

Player Tries Line Breaks Try Assists Average Run Metres Errors
J. Bird 2 4 7 115 26
B. Kelly 6 8 5 101 19
W. Chambers 6 7 5 125 18
J. Roberts 15 13 3 140 20
L. Mitchell 11 13 7 90 21
B. Takairangi 2 4 6 82 11
J. Dugan 3 8 1 147 10
T. Peachey 7 8 1 113 14
K. Linnett 3 6 0 120 7

So, looking at Bird, his tries scored and line breaks are the lowest in the group along with Takaraingi. His try assists are the highest (equal to Mitchell). His run metres are pretty good but errors are clearly the highest in the group.

This is not an exhaustive analysis but aims to add some rationality to the irrational criticism of Bird. BTW irrational criticism is what this forum is built on, so please continue as normal.

Stats are not everything weapon.

He's been way down on form this year, especially for a SOO player.

Yep. Don't need stats to tell you he's been shit all year. Broncos must be absolutely shitting themselves knowing what they have to pay him.

I wouldn't be sending him anywhere atm.

Like the rest of the team, he will lift for the big games.

He's capable of lifting more than most.

I think his decision to leave is probably weighing down on his mind.....he needs to accept his decision & make the most of the last few weeks with his mates, otherwise it'll be a short few weeks.

Broncos recruitment and retention for next season is average.

Recruit Jack Bird for 1 million and he's been lucky to keep his spot in First Grade.

Lost Moga and Esse who have so much power and X Factor it's not funny.

While the contract circus continues, there are reports that Jack Bird may be looking to get out of his move to Queensland next season.

Bird signed a four-year deal with the Broncos which was rumoured to be worth $4 million when the news first broke.

However, Triple M's Matty Johns told the Grill Team that he's wanting to stay in the Shire.

“There’s a story going around that he wants to stay at the Sharks and is not keen on the move to Brisbane," Matty Johns said.

"The Sharks can’t offer him a contract now because they would be enticing him to break a contract with the Broncos. So the ball’s in Jack Bird’s court.

before all the resignings, Bird was the one i wanted resigned the most(more than Chad, Lewis, Gal, and BBQ), hes young, hes been with us the entire time, his potential and his utility value was amazing and something i thought we HAD to keep, especially when in a few years, the amount of salary cap concessions we would get on the guy would be worth its weight in gold.
His attitude and form this year has been poor. So very poor.
Maybe its for the best that we let him go up north.

Farq me, my nightmare is becoming reality. haha. He'd have to accept far less to stay right? Surely Cronulla don't have the funds to keep him on more than what he is on.

He does have some ties with St Merge though, that could happen.

Looks like his shoulder isn't that bad, I thought he would be gone for a lot longer than a couple of weeks.

I dont think Drags could afford him either, i think he might have screwed himself over on this deal
