Can’t see him playing five-eighth first up then. Need the halves to be fit and getting early combinations. Lock or Centre for Jack first up you’d think..?

He’ll still have until March to get fit, build combos and confidence with a couple of trials (hopefully).

Matey, our halves combos have had years and still can’t gel together ...
At the beginning of 2019, McGregor was still stuffing around with Widdop and Norman on who’d play fullback and five eighth. Just created uncertainty in the team and only the shoulder injury to Widdop forced his hand, not any clear direction from above. Norman then broke his jaw soon after so we were still not settled for a long part of 2019. The McIness- Hunt swap last year around only adds to this further. If Birds fit fine, if not, let’s be ready from the get go!

As per Inisai Toga's comments, Mary was stuffing around between Widdop and Norman and even Clune. And you wonder why Ben Hunt has struggled in the halves for Saints? He has not had a settled No.6 since he joined. When he joined Widdop was injured most of the time and when he played Hunt looked awesome (watch the 2018 seaon especially the finals game against the Broncs). That is why you cannot discount Hunt as a quality player. Once he gets a better structure and settled halves combo, he will be on fire. Griffin is not stupid and he can see the potential and how badly Hunt has been used in the past.

Maybe our new coaching staff will make the difference, although I am doubtful that we will see a better performance from Norman.

My preferred halves combo is Bird / Hunt leaving a Sullivan / Clune combo in reserve grade. No place for Norman at all.

Bird is a centre.

I would prefer to give Feagai an extended run there. I have a feeling they are going to use him in a Bateman style edge back row position off the bench at first to cover Friz unless we snag someone else soon.
But both Friz & Bateman were starters, not bench players?
