Not many if they play him in the forwards. I feel certain that he will play either in 1, 4, or 6. So he better be fully fit by round 1.
Playing him in the forwards might leave him susceptible to impact injuries but it would reduce the risk of re-injuring his ACL. Unfortunately he appears prone to both kinds of injury.

I say play him wherever the team needs him.

I believe we should play him where the team needs him most of all however, if he is not 100% fit, don't play him until he is fit. Bird himself raised doubts about his fitness which is a worry to me.

Heard today from excellent source that Bird has been signed on a performance based contract. He MUST play to get paid. If he is injured and sitting on the sidelines then he doesn't get paid.
Not sure how the nuts and bolts of that work with the salary cap but it sounds like our club is finally starting to make some bright decisions.

Minimum NRL salary + incentives per game.

There are plenty of hard nosed forwards in this country. These just need better systems and more coaches who can develop that through to NRL
No difference with everyone saying there is a shortage of playmakers.
In fact there’s a shortage of every position at NRL standard level because the powers at be have forgotten about lower grades exposure and development to get more ready and available for NRL

Absolutely.

We had the pathways, Under 23s, Reserve grade and the first grade.

It became complex and expensive once we expanded outside of NSW, particularly NZ. We need to provide the pathways for the late blooming players. At least having a full First grade and CC comp. Possibly without NZ in the CC comp.

As you have said crush , it is indeed pleasing to know that we now have people within the Joint Venture whom are making the correct decisions. From the administration side with Webb and other recently appointed officials , to Griffin and his cohorts .

Perhaps the ‘ old boys brigade ‘ is finally being phased out ?

It really is win-win.
I have no doubt @Crush is correct.

Player with a history of injuries gets a second chance. Club doesn't pay a fortune.

Agree T.Saint , another good point is that Bird himself realizes the true situation with his previous injuries and the chance that the Dragons are taking by signing him . Therefore he will need to be fit to play so as to collect his paycheck , that plus the opportunity of extending his current contract into the future .

Good outcome for both parties , more so in as much that he has a coach in Griffin whom he knows will get the best from him , which will extend his longevity in the game .

Phased out yes however, I'm not convinced gone.

Remember how long it was around after the Bennett year. Hopefully lightning doesn't strike twice to soon.
Their has been major change to the people employed at the club but still more to come.

The player roster has changed however at the end of 2021, there are many players coming off contract.
The CEO has changed providing a breath of fresh air in the way the club is being run.

The coaching staff has changed which can only be a step in the right direction given how far Mary and his men dragged the club down.

Future changes should be directed towards the make up of the Board where very little change in personnel has occurred. Some fresh, professional people need to take their place on the Board from both sides of the ownership.

I'd like to see at least on representative of the Red V membership seated on the Board, in this way, if we have the right person, the Board can be reminded of the views of the fans. Maybe Red V members could choose a delegate each year to represent the fans each year. if that works out fine, maybe our women's fans could also take a seat on the Board and in the same way as Red V Members, be selected as a delegate.

Maybe losing one Board member from each side to accommodate this change would not be a bad thing and may eventually lead to the formation of a more democratically elected SGI Board. Who know, maybe a proper SGI Club with a fan membership.

Make sure you keep and eye on those forearms. Ethel will love them but you don't need another reason to be called a wanker :wink:

The only thing that Pop Eye and I ( pardon the pun ) have in my common my friend is the pipe , as to the other , that went the way of the doe- doe bird many years ago .

do we have that much spinach available in australia or will we need to import from china?

Jak , did you not hear the news on the telly only this morning ? Australia has signed its largest trade deal in history with its Asian counterparts . I am quite sure that Scotty has a little something in it for me .
