Congratulations Jamaica!

The question has to be asked though. Is it good for our game that the USA will probably not be at the world cup now? I know they have a second chance but they will be up against it. The USA sent a majority domestic squad to the world cup last time. Yes, they got hammered but we are replacing an authentic international team (USA) with what will be a stacked heritage team (Jamaica) at the next cup. Plus the media will have their usual field day with the 'Jamaicans' all having English accents.

USA get to play off against one of the pac island sides for the last spot. Probably the Cook Islands.

I my opinion, this is the best international news for some time. I think that this will get the coverage across Jamaica that it deserves. They beat a quality USA side so this isn't about the demise of the US but more the rise of Jamaica!
They are steadily building and with a few years to go looks full of promise.
The growth in the US has stalled and this is the kick up the pants they needed.

This just brings a great flavor to the world cup! Can't wait to see those flags!
It's clear that these people are built for the sport! This could be the start of another fiji. I hope they play each other.
Jamaicans support each other well and I bet we will see bolt jump on the band wagon, help promote them and attend their games.

Go Jamaica!

Wow. This is great news.

Someone mentioned they will be stacked with heritage players. I will counter with the great work that has been done in Jamaica building a domestic presence.

Go Jamaica! Do yourselves, your families & your country proud.

Oh god is Tonga Mk 2, The side is almost exclusively English. To talk about steady building and rising is a bit much when without selecting an almost exclusively heritage side they would have been battling Chilie. I’m glad there’s another side in the mix but let’s keep it real.

My thoughts exactly. The USA on the other hand are an authentic international team that will probably have the world cup door closed on them by a heritage Jamaica and heritage Cook Islands. The USA is a key market for RL and it has been great to see them using domestic players. These results won't encourage that though.

Domestic players will never compete against NRL or Super League professional players and lowers the standards of the world cup.
Usa got smashed in every game of the world Cup. As a result their games were poorly attended or viewed on TV as people turned away. There has been 0 growth in the US since and WC 2025 looks on the outer.
Tonga with mostly all heritage players were the shinning light of the world cup , had massive attendances with people tuning in around the world, have since earned a show down with the world champs - now interest in the Island nation is at a peak.

Thankfully Jamaica doesn't have the vested interest of the local park league demand they have a run against the best professional players the world has.
Good decision Jamaica- your in the world cup!

They drew poorly? Two of the games were in Townsville and one was in Port Moresby which I’m pretty sure sold out. Not many teams played at a sold out stadium in 2017.
How did the other games in Townsville do, perhaps it wasn’t the USA having a lot of domestic that caused poor crowds.
Give me more USAs less Tonga’s, Samoa’s and cooks. I want a World Cup not an Aussies, poms and kiwis run around in different colours Cup.
