Next year they are paying all of Boyd and blairs contracts, which were Subsidised by their previous clubs in 2015. So these guys are virtually new signings too

Also we will no longer be paying Barbas anymore. Stopped paying Garbutts end of this year, and if we are paying any off Hoffman or Kennedys ( I doubt it on both fronts ) those end as well. It all evens out mostly anyway. Plus ask a knights fan what they think the Knights are paying Boyd, according to them it's nothing.

I left Taupau out because he signed end of October so he had probably been in talks for a quite a few weeks at that stage negotiating his release and also his new contract so Manly would have budgeted that one for quite a while IMO

At least since September if the rumour mill would have you believe.

However, it wasn't a move they had initially budgeted for and they had to organise releases in order to get it over the line, which as we all know can be very sloppy.

Just to annoy the f**k out of the haters

1 - Boyd
2 - Oates
3 - Reed
4 - Roberts
5 - Kahu
6 - Milford
7 - Hunt

Looks awesome. .. drool worthy...
Reed looks extremely out of place in that backline for mine. But yeah when he's your worst player there's a lot to be happy about.

We shouldn't have paid Boyd for bailing out on us, but we did for the length of his existing contract, which ended at the close of the 2015 season, or November 1st at the latest. We're certainly not paying him now, he wasn't contracted beyond 2015. I don't know of a single Knights fan that claims otherwise, perhaps you could point them out, or put your straw man away?

Could still end up being Kahu or Copely. Reed could miss the first month with his shoulder and find it hard to get back into the side. I'm not against Kahu and Roberts in the centres with Oates and Anderson ( Jets player we signed ) on the wings.

Fair play to the lad he wants to have a successful career and won't have a better chance of winning a title next season than with Broncos.
Would have loved him at Souths but wish him all the best.

what an odd centre pairing... the NRL's fastest centre with the NRL's slowest centre..

Either way it appears to work and all balance out for us, Roberts signature pretty much makes that statement in itself. Plus we wouldn't have had to pay as much for Boyd as the Knights did after his knights/broncos contact cross over ended, so win win for us.

Reed and Oates?

I remember them blowing a defensive assignment in the final moments of the 2015 GF.

I guess I was drooling........... ;)

Absolutely. This isn't a problem with the Broncos, it's not a problem with Souths and it's not a problem with the Bulldogs. They're doing exactly what they should be doing - leveraging everything they can that the NRL will allow them to build the best rosters they can.

I've got zero sour grapes against these 4 or 5 rich clubs directly (although I'm honest enough to admit I'm jelly), but I do have a problem with the NRL sitting back telling everyone the cap is there to level the playing field and spread the talent, when every year that intention is proven more shambolic.

Either we're trying to run an "even" comp, which you can debate the merit of completely separately too... or we're not. Either clubs are allowed to include third party agreements in negotiations, or they're not.

Agreed.
The big market clubs are simply doing their jobs, that doing everything legally in their powers to build a team

The NRL's "salary cap" is the biggest farce in Australian sports. Kudos to the Broncos, Souths, Roosters etc for exploiting this ridiculous cap to their advantage. It's what i'd want my club to do if they were able to

I'm just happy that an up and coming coach like Bennett has been given a bit of a roster boost so that he can make the team competitive. It's only fair that if you lose an Origin player you should be allowed to replace them with a guy who has played, or will likely play, Origin or for Australia straight away...

I think some people get confused over how players get a payout from former clubs.
It's for when the club moves you on. So if your contracted for 2016 for say $300, 000 then you are guaranteed that money. If the club moves you on, and your new clubs can only pay you a fraction of that, then your old club has to pay the difference. If you wish to play for a new club and can negotiate a release it means you no longer are guaranteed that $300,000. If your new club only pays a fraction of that then your old club is under no obligation to pay the rest as they granted you your release. So tigers want to get rid of blair, they move him on and pay the difference so he gets all the money he was guaranteed. Boyd wants to move to broncos, he is granted a release on compassionate grounds, newcastle no longer have to guarantee his money

Absolutely correct, but unfortunately I believe the Knights did settle on a payout. We're soft as wet toilet paper. We could have held out and made him play Cup.

^ that's how it supposed to work and does most of the time, but some how the Knights wound up paying Boyd to leave them. No idea why. Their management needs to be shot for that
