I don't think the Knights even have 17 players who have played first grade in their squad for next year. We've lost Kurt Gidley (450k), Beau Scott (500k), BJ Leilua (300-400k) and a host of other lesser players to replace them with Hodkinson on 600k and Mickey Paea on a pie and coke contract. And apparently we have no room for anyone else. Most of our money went into fending off the Dogs from the Mata'utias and Brisbane for Gagai. Apparently we had to trump Brisbanes '300k' contract with $575k under our own cap to best their offer. Impossible to compete under these circumstances. We pretty much pay double of players, or just watch reserve graders run around for us. Or both, it would seem.

Chin up mate, Gidley is finally gone.

Broncos are playing by the rules, not our fault we can do it better for whatever reason. The system will never be perfect, there will always be a haves and have nots.

I'm not saying they're not playing by the rules, as the NRL polices them anyway... although there's plenty to be suspicious about with the way the Andrew Gee fiasco went down. I'm not even pointing the finger at the Broncos. You're defending against an argument that doesn't exist and that no-one I can see is talking about. Kudos to the Broncos for having both the smarts and the resources to exploit the system to its fullest.

Bennett likes his defensive centres so Reed is pretty much an automatic selection.

and by 'defensive' you mean 'just back away from the bloke with the ball', yeah?

Reed can't defend for shit ... he hasn't been able to for a couple of years now (since he started getting his shoulder problems).

God only knows how he keeps getting selected ... I'm just praying that the rumours are wrong and it is Reed who gets the ass for Roberts and not Copley

It will be funny when Dropley goes to the Titans, plays badly for 2 years then goes to SL.

In general

I would consider the following rep players to be extremely dubious in 2015, based on either their NRL form or their rep form (or in some cases, both):

- Bryson Goodwin (NZ)
- Nate Myles (QLD)
- Jacob Lillyman (QLD)
- Josh Morris (NSW)
- Josh Jackson (NSW)
- Will Hopoate (NSW)
- Mitchell Pearce (NSW)
- Michael Ennis (NSW)

That's without even looking at blokes like BJ Leilua from countries outside of Aus, who are technically rep players, too. Sione Mata'utia is an Aus rep ffs from 2014, and the kid can't defend to save himself at this point. Rep jumpers do not necessarily correlate with quality.

2 players who got the dally m awards for their positions this year (ennis and Jackson), the halfback of the team that has won 3 consecutive minor premierships, and 3 players who have always performed well in origin (morris, myles and lillyman). Don't disagree with Goodwin but it's been 2 years since he played for New Zealand

And here is the biggest issue. We (raiders) offered milford 1 million dollars a season to stay. Now its rumoured he is on about 900k at the broncos including tpa. There were other issues at play for milford...club he grew up supporting, family and friends live in brisbane whatever.

Just looking at it from a money pov i would feel pretty confident that the 1 million we offered about 90 percent of that at a minimum was coming straight from the cap. I wouldnt be shocked if the broncos are only paying milford like 40 to 50 percent of his income.

Small market teams have to spend significant chunks of cap to keep players relative to the larger market sides on the same contract. Thats why clubs like the knignts have no money to spend with a bunch of reserve graders and the broncos can find room for high quality talent at the 11th hour.

Some bloke bagging out stuart was like hey raiders why you no sign a quality prop. Its not so easy because of the percentage of the cap a high quality player would cost the raiders and the amount of cap we need to spend just keeping the players we want.

I must be looking at old team sheets then. If anything you've just highlighted how much of a farce the dally ms are, too.

- Halfback of the team that's won 3 consecutive minor prems - also halfback of the most failures at rep level of all time.
- Morris has never done anything at rep level aside from mark up on Inglis. Does an OK job, is a total plodder for the most part, though. Is on the decline. Was never as good as his brother.
- Jackson - totally over-rated. Bog standard second rower that deserves absolutely nothing he gets at this stage.
- Myles - total plodder who is taking the Titans for a ride.
- Lillyman - another plodder who can't be compared to other rep stars.

What is your point exactly? Are you trying to argue that the list I just named belongs next to a list like the following?

- Jarryd Hayne
- Jonathan Thurston
- Greg Inglis
- Darius Boyd
- Paul Gallen
- Issac Luke
- Cooper Cronk
- Jesse Bromwich

One of these lists contains premium, legitimate rep players who are top tier and deserve to be paid top dollars. The other is a list of guys who have played rep football that don't really deserve to tie the other lists shoelaces. These players cannot be spoken about as though they are equivalent, it's just dumb and intellectually dishonest. Anyone who stops and thinks for half a second knows that "rep player" is a dubious term when spoken without context, especially when evaluating the quality of rosters.

OK OK.... in the interests of showing that other sides have been allowed to assemble teams just as chock full of rep players I'll make some comparisons

Let me compare it to say.... oh I don't know... how about the 2010 premiership winning team...

Darius Boyd - QLD/Aust
B.Morris - NSW/Aust
Gasnier - NSW/Aust
Cooper - NSW/Aust
Nightingale - NZ
Soward - NSW
Hornby - NSW
Costigan - QLD
Young - NSW/Aust
Weyman - NSW/Aust
Beau Scott - NSW/Aust
Creagh - NSW/Aust
Jeremy Smith - NZ

Fien - NZ
Merrin - NSW
Prior
Saffy

And if you'd like we could go back even further to show that lots of teams have had just as much rep quality... Let's pick, Oh I dunno, maybe Brisbane in 1993?

O'Neill - QLD/Aust
Hancock - QLD/Aust
Johns - NSW
Renouf - QLD/Aust
Carne - QLD/Aust
Walters - QLD/Aust
Langer - QLD/Aust
Lazarus - NSW/Aust
Walters - QLD/Qust
Hohn - QLD
Gillmeister - QLD/Aust
Cann - QLD
Matterson - NSW

A.Gee - QLD
Plath
Peter Ryan - QLD

So as you can clearly see, Wayne Bennett isn't the only coach that has been able to stack his teams full of Origin and international players, the 2 lists above clearly show past teams have been just as "fortunate"....

Now I am not saying you are wrong, but if you are going to say other coaches besides Bennett do it, you might want to try an not use two teams coached by Bennett as an example.

Yet you have boyd on the bottom list, many would put him in the same category as the likes of myles and lillyman. Whether you like a player or not to say their rep jumpers are undeserved is a bit harsh.
