What does everyone think of Jarrod's year?? I realise he had an injury(like 75% of the players) but I don't think he had the best year or has lived up to the hype surrounding him. I don't think his kicking game is good at all...Alot of people are quick to say what a bad game rodgers or dureau had but to me mullen played just as poor.... and sometimes worse then either dureau or rodgers. I really hope his attacking/kicking game improves next year because as it is we don't have alot of last tackle attack options....

He started the year on fire, but injuries and the fact that he didn't get a lot of help in the halves wore him down over the season.

A piss poor kicking game. No excuses other than lack of ability. Jeff Robson, Daniel Mortimer and Jarrad Hayne (yes they are the flavour of the month) have better kicking games than this bloke and two of them have played f**k all first grade. What the f**k is that about. Should play 5/8 for the season, must run the ball more often and use his ball skills. We need a halfback to compliment him.

He didn't live up to expectations but I think those expectations were too high. Mullen was set up to be the next "wonder boy" to replace Johns and I think it had an adverse effect.
I can't underrate him though - he's still near the top performer in the team.
Less pressure and a better understanding and help from his team and other half will help. Against the Dogs I saw Mullen with his hand up waving to make a play and Dureau just put in an awful kick instead.
Whether we will see the best in Mullen I'm yet to know but I know he has it there for sure.

KOTW would suggests he's done fairly well this year for us.

But got worse as the year went on, much like the whole team.

A handy ball runner, a handy kicker, has a nice pass and an improving defender. The problem is that he is yet to mesh any of his skills into a mentality. He kicks when he should run, he runs when he should kick and so on. My impression of him is that he should be a deep thinker and understand the game really well, but again, on the field it just doesnt materialise consistently enough. We have to persevere with him, he is talented and a prospect but nowhere near the player people rate him to be, not consistently anyway. So far id rate his failures as a blight on our coaching and development side of the game, he seems to be not too far removed from the 17 year old kid that showed great promise. I dont want to be too critical of him, he has had a pretty decent year, but time and again he fails key tests, in particular when the side is under pressure or well ahead, which leads me to believe his mental side of the game is apparently weaker than we all thought.

maybe a rodgers/dureau combination just to see how that works?? Couldn't hurt and it may be just the wake up call mullen needs.....

You are kidding, right?
The only problem with Jarrod Mullen is the fact that he can't do his thing at halfback, a position he has had to play this season.
He must play at 5/8, this gives him the room to do the things he is capable of doing. At the end of the season he got the chance to play 5/8, but it was all too late.
There is a few things this team has to do to reclaim it's position in the top end of the ladder.
1. Get & keep our top front rowers on the field.
2. Have a quality halfback to compliment Mullen.
3. Dedicate training time to Kicking. that means have at least two kickers for conversions, more if possible. Also extra training if necessary for sixth tackle options. That is something our team lacks badly. Half the time it looks as though nobody knows what is coming up for that last play.

I have never seen Mullen perform well when it really mattered, as others have said he seems to go to pieces under pressure. He has the ability we all know that. Yes he needs a quality No7 alongside him.

I have no idea what johns teaches him but in previous articles Mullo has revealed that he has exercise book after exercise book of knowledge gained from Joey. Could it be a case of information overload? Too much stuff going thru his head ends up taking the wrong decisions. Or perhaps trying to be too much like Joey and forgetting about his style of play?

I think like someone said further up he should just try keep it simple and focus on his strengths in the offseason then once he has achieved that he could blend in a couple of little things that Joey has taught him.

I dare say that little book needs to be thrown in the bin and Mullo needs to go back to basics. His go is to run the ball, be a ball player and work on his kicking game.

If only Joey could teach him consistency. Seems like with Mullo, his kicking game especially is either outstanding or really bad no in between

Definately agree with everyone here.

Consistancy is his biggest issue however playing him out of position most of the year didnt help. I think Smith didnt utilise his biggest assest which is his running game in my opinion enough this year... Just made him do too much else. Kinda like Kidley of old however definately one of our starish players and hopefully does improve. On paper having:
1. Kidley
6. Mullen
9. De Gois

Is pretty good basis for a team... I hope Stone sticks him into no.6 next year and if he doesnt bloom next year or the year after I think he'll never reach the heights expected of him...

Crumbles under pressure and he doesn't god damn talk on the field. See things not going his way and he'll stand there in stunned silence. We need halves that are gonna scream at the boys if need be. After all, Buderus became the best hooker of all time on the basis of Andrew Johns trying to tear his head off every time one didn't arrive on the chest, we need this again, we're a better team for it.

If he wants to be our marquee player, he must be paid fat coin given the hype around him, and tbh he has not delivered. Either get your consistency right or go play elsewhere.
