If seems Hayne could maybe turn out to the be the Ben Roberts of the NFL - can be brilliant but also prone to silly errors.

I'd say Bush being injured and Davis not doing much will keep him alive but he'll need to cut out the errors quick smart.

Is he done, Barry? If he were a standard college recruit would he have any more chances?

Dunno. I think they'll be a little more patient with him, as he was always going to be very much a work-in-progress. There's more chance of a significant improvement across the season. It also depends on who is out there on the free agent market. He may well find himself inactive for a few games if Bush is fit.

They play again Friday (our time) so a short turnaround. Might play into his hands with others walking around a little dusty.

From his fumble, was it anything Hayne actually did that was wrong in terms of the way he was carrying it? I'm not sure Hayne would have been the only one to drop it like that after being tackled like that.

Physically he's elite, even at that level. He just needs to learn the game, which won't happen quickly.

I bet he's kicking himself he never finished high school. He could have gone to college in 2010 and probably would have been ready for the draft by 2012/2013.

He was carrying the ball too far from his body in a situation where it almost certain that he could be hit from any angle. And these kicking team guys are trained to go for the strip whenever possible.

Facts are that after 6 games in the regular season, he's failed to live up to the exhibition games hype, right ?

Fair to say that he has failed to live up to that hype. But that hype was rubbish.

If you asked me where he'd be at after being initially signed by the 49ers, I'd have said he probably wouldn't make the cut, and would have been signed to the practice squad (probably at the 9ers). He is in the process of learning the game, with a bit of in-match exposure every now and then. That's realistically the most his first year was ever going to be.

Let's assume that Hayne is not completely motivated by money. I can't see how he would have any job satisfaction playing 2 minutes a week. What a f**king shit sport. Maybe his ego being stroked and playing in front of fat Americans is enough for him but I seriously believe he is wasting his talent playing this crap. Even Union would be more fulfilling than this shit.

I shake my head.

i think the whole production (aka song n dance) of NFL would keep him interested for a while ... he obviously loves the big show .... it will probably take a while for the novelty to wear off

He did say that at his age, his body is more suited to NFL.

Instead of constant drifting in and out of NRL games, in NFL, he can apply his trade in short spurts and then can take a rest.

Lets see if he does a hammy in NFL.

His ultimate goal would be to be the first string RB and punt/kick returner which would get him on the field every time the offence and special teams are on the field. Wouldn't be so "boring" for him then.

Do you really think someone is just going to walk in off the street and play a whole game?
