Because unless we offload one of the overpaid underperforming players that play in the same positions, then we're wasting a squad place and cap space on the wrong positions by signing him now.

If we convince some dumb, stupid and desperate club to take one of these overpaid and underperforming players off our hands then the situation changes. But which club is that dumb, stupid and desperate?

I think the only player who we want to offload who is on a low enough salary that another club would be interested in would probably be French. But I'm only saying that because I doubt he's on that much. I think the rest are all on stupid money, and this is probably demonstrated that we're apparently close to the cap limit with a petty average roster.

We don’t have an adequate fullback at the moment without weakening another position, so I’d say we’d be spending the cap space pretty wisely.

What benefit does it give us to hold that spot in the roster? Wouldn’t you get the most benefit from that spot by having them available all preseason and for selection from round 1?

Agreed. But his on Top 13 money. I'd suggest all 7 of those listed above are all on starting money (George J probably at the lower end outside of that).

If we have all those blokes and The Plane that's potentially 7 players on Top 13 money, for only 5 positions. It's a dumb use of the cap.

We need 5 players on Top 13 money for those 5 positions, not 7.

If we offload a decent player, eg mennings, then we are gonna be paying a chunk of his salary this season - which will consume a top 30 slot ... so even offloading someone now wont make the roster spot

I dunno we could push a guy like davey out of our squad yo try and keep a spot open???

If I'm not mistaken this rule about paying players not playing for you but they still take up a spot in your squad is no longer part of the squad setup.

I hear what you’re saying but assuming Mahoney takes the other remaining spot, where would you rather spend that cap space within the roster? As a spine position, you need quality at fullback.

I was thinking the same thing. He’d be on minimum so as long as the player recruited is more than Davey’s salary that would push him out of the top 30 wouldn’t it?
