I really find it difficult to believe that the club wants Hayne to sign and doesn't ( didn't ) have 500k earmarked to sign him.

One of those things simply cannot be true, unless perhaps the decision was made some time ago he wasn't wanted, and now that has changed.

And that would contradict all the noise coming from both parties through out the season.

I believe the club just presumed that someone would be knocking down our door to take one of our underperforming overpaid players like Norman, Moses, Jennings, French, or Takairangi of our hands.

You're missing my argument. We have 28 players and only one recognised hooker. If Pritchard replaces Mahoney as Avenger indicated, we still only have one Hooker in the squad.

So position 29 is really only going to be a hooker.

Mahoney will 99% likely take position 29 in the roster, which leaves us only one spot left. Why would we fill that spot in the middle of November when we don't have to until the end of June?

Meaning there is no spot for The Plane until we get rid of someone. The salary cap space is fairly irrelevant.

That would likely be because we have not agreed to terms with him.

I don't believe we have given him an actual contract. Id say we've told him the money we're planning to offer him, but until someone f**ks off, there is no spot in the squad so there is nothing to offer.

1 of the last 2 spots is definitely a hooker whether it’s Reed or someone else’s no question about it but there’s no reason why Hayne can’t take the other spot...

Because surely no club in their right mind, or has used every cent of their salary cap, would fill position 30 in the roster in the middle of November when they don't have to until the end of June.

The issue that the only recognised hooker in the 28 squad is the most injury prone player in the club and struggles to string a month of football together in a row makes it more problematic. As a result, we're already committed to 29 players even though they're not in the squad, but it will definitely have to be a hooker.

Sure. But it's also rare to put a contract in front of someone when you know that there's 0% chance that they'll sign on the terms specified. It's a waste of legal fees for a start.

I read somewhere that Schneider is a better prospect than Mahoney.

The club assumed that some of their overpaid underperforming players would be snapped up by now, which is the predicament they've got themselves in. Given those circumstances, they obviously can't take the risk with adding to the squad at present as having only one recognised hooker in the squad at the moment, they've sort of snookered themselves until someone f**ks off.

I dare say if someone like Hoffman, French or Jennings had been moved on then both The Plane and Mahoney would already be filling spots 28 and 29 in the roster.
