Let's look at the CEO in all of this, he has not given a positive interview since he took the chair. Surely he had control over the cap as it was said he was happy to be in charge of all football operations.

How does such a supposedly smart operator not ensure there is enough room to sign probably the most identifiable and Paramatta fan favourite out there. Let's chalk it up as another failure for Bernie and the team, if he has this roster close to the cap, that's undeniably poor admin .

I agree we should really explore Bernie's failure to allow infinite amount of cap space in for players we might want to sign because they may want more than we are willing to offer

Which player should they have not signed ? Jnr, Fergo or Lane ?

Gronk, not saying they shouldn't have signed anyone. The real question is why is the roster positioned that way, it's the job of the CEO to get things done .

Outside of people on here, there is a real issue with the general fans who can't understand why JH isn't signed. Under Bernie we get no guidance except poor news. He has had 2 years to assist in getting things in shape, if he continues to say he wants JH, then why wasn't that part of shaping the cap and roster. He has disappointed across a number of fronts, without Uncle Nick he is a little weaker in performance than expcted.

I dont give 2 hoots about the way we paid norman or moses ... if they played to their potential we would be perfectly happy

Messings ... meh - i thought he was a crap signing initially - then he was very good for 2 seasons - then he was crap ... maybe he will be worth it in 2019??? ... who the f**k knows

2016 he was just ok. 2017 he was awesome. 2018 he was woefull .
Thats been MJs career. I can see him bouncing back. Never seen the guy have 2 bad seasons in a row and he needs a big year to force a new contract somewhere.

When did Hayne make his mind up he wanted to stay for 2019? I heard BA multiple times say JH needs to decide what he wants to do. I gathered JH did not want to make a decision untill end of season. Fergo would of been snapped up by then.

We signed Ferguson, Paulo, Lane and some other blokes. Backended deals aren't hurting us. Players playing like busted f**kheads hurt us

We’ve got Moses, Norman and mennings playing like park footballers, all on big back ended deals.

Why do you think BA is happy to move on anyone of those?? You think money freed up from any of those 3 will be used to sign Hayne or another quality player?

Amazing how nut huggers (not calling you that) turn a blind eye to what BA is attempting to do, but once someone tries explaining it, the forum goes into meltdown.

Well it seems that we have tried to move at least half a dozen on. So it's not as if we didn't try.

Is Hayne after an upgrade ? Also if it was his idea to l leave it until October then is his fault we have no cash. If he left it because he knew we had to release players then he was on notice about our cap issues since July or August.

Hoffman would be costing around 250k and his spot could be filled with a min wage graduate. That would leave 150k.
But whats the deal? Do we need to find Hayne full wage of say 700k? Or do we have 500k and told him we dont have no more room in cap sorry but have no intentions to pay him more regaurdless? Its all unclear.
My impression is we kept 500k spare for him and he is asking for more. The eels perhaps happy to give a little more but can't unless release. However I feel like we still wont pay what he is asking.

Again, not the issue. Our situation should allow us to sign who we did and still get JH. The CEO explains nothing and that adds to the problem with his ongoing mantra that he wants JH at the club. That should have seen an attempt to structure the cap , nobody here is a cap genius but surely there were conversations going on behind the scenes. It's been poorly handled like a number of things.
Don't underestimate the fans outside of these forums and their anger should JH sign elsewhere if we aren't organised enough to sign him. I am prepared to take the view that supporters expected JH to grace the new stadium in our colours, and are not happy. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a backlash on memberships to be honest .

Yeah but if any of them were playing as well as they did in just 2017 (and you can argue about overachieving or what not back then, but contracts are based mostly on individual performance) then would you really be complaining how much they were on? Value is a 2 factor calculation. Sure their prices are probably right on their upper limit, probably over (esp Mennings) but it's impact on their value really doesn't come close with just how shit they each were last season

@Delboy I see where you are coming from, but your argument is predicated on Hayne saying we don't have enough space for him. Say we budgeted for 600k for Hayne, but he wants 750. Is that bad management? So we've left enough space to sign him at the price we think he is worth, not the price he wants. (speculating on figures of course)

Another concern would be BA moving Ferguson to fullback. Would be a stupid move but dont discount our coaching team.

Just curious, Gazza, why you think that. My thinking is that we don't have a decent fullback (Hayne too slow, French not first grade standard, Gutherson a centre only, Norman okay but maybe too slow and maybe better suited to five-eight). I know wing is an important position and Ferguson is a tremendous winger; but a lack of fullback options worries me. And I think Ferguson would be better than anyone we've got. I'd actually prefer Fergo at fullback and Hayne on the wing.
