He might be backing himself to put together a full season (injury free) at an elite level at fullback. That would potentially lead to a larger multi-year contract from 2020.
He may not want to lock himself into a contract of lower value for more than a year as it would reduce his chance at the final big paycheck (or is it paycheque).

He may also not be sure how long he wants to keep playing RL before switching to Fiji Rugby.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Chiefy told us that weeks ago.

He's still young enough to lead a team for an all out assault on Mt Everest. And then there's Ninja Warrior.

I'm happy that we're not again going overboard with unwarrented contracts and bulking on Hayne's 2 year deal. This club is in a situation where needs to look past Hayne.

Gurr would be looking 3 - 5 years down the track in which Hayne wont be a part of, and building towards sustained success. We're currently in this situation because of unwarranted long contracts.

I'll support Gurr on this.

Hail Bernie. Hayne is no longer the priority. 1 year is enough.
