Problem is i think only one RB was drafted and the draft is full of quality RB's this year so there are still plenty of good ones available in 2nd round and even the third.

Special teams is his only hope for a roster spot. He won't even be third string running back. He will be lucky to get even a dozen offensive downs this year, even if he makes the final squad.

That would still be a massive achievement, and he could be very effective on special teams straight away.

He is no chance. There are Rhodes scholars that are unable to take in the complex NFL playbook. JH is a simple boy from Minto that sadly doesn't have the smarts to play American footy.

And there are players with considerably lower academic qualifications who learn playbooks just fine, suggesting that it isn't a factor in whether or not the plays can be learned.

The problem for Hayne is those players you speak of with significant lower academic qualifications offset that by having gone through at least 3 years of college football and probably another 5 years of High School football...

So they have practical experience in doing things like recognising fronts or coverages.

If Hayne is playing as a RB he needs to recognise and pick up blitzes at the line. That's the type of study he's been struggling with at the moment.

He doesn't have that natural instinct built in from years of college football where they can quickly recognise small things which indicate where the pressure is going to come from...

But at least the niners are well aware of this and are giving him the best chance to succeed. And from all accounts he's working hard.

No one ever said that NFL players are smarter (if they did they'd either be stupid or trolling).
It's just that they are more knowledgeable about their game.

Read a story this morning where Hayne said "Why can't shit be smooth?".

Good question Jarryd, why can't it be?

I wish the NRL had a draft. Forget about the disbursement of talent, how good is it to have massive interest in a sport during the offseason when the comp is still months and months away from kicking off.

Although I agree an NFL style draft would be great, it would be difficult logistically in the NRL under the current structure of all NSW based teams. Of all the sports in the world who already have a draft, none of them have 3 junior age teams from 16-20 years already part of their organisation.

The only way for a draft to realistically happen is if all NSW Clubs dissolve/abolish their junior structures and the NSWRL/NRL re-structure and operate all competitions for players 18 years and under with ZERO involvement from the NSW based NRL teams.

I realistically don't see the NSW based clubs ever agreeing to this, nor do I see the NRL/NSWRL having the capacity to do it all themselves at the present time.

Gets tougher for Jarryd Hayne. Mike Davis taken in #NFLDraft. 49ers now have RBs Carlos Hyde, Reggie Bush, Kendall Hunter, Hayne and Davis

No 1 - You dont make special teams unless you take the snap are a punter or take field goals.Special teams is made up of other squad players -running backs wide recievers etc. There is no punt returner as a position only!!

No 2 - San fran have 2 deff rb's ahead of hayne.A third if fit and now one they drafted. You usually dont draft a guy in the 4th round without plans to be in the squad.

No 3 - At best if Hayne was to make it lets say as 3rd or 4th choice. There would be 100's of guys capable of beeing a teams 3rd or 4th choice. The lower down the ranks you get the higher the amount of guys in that class. Now if you where the coach would you chose Hayne, a guy with plenty of money who can go back home and earn 1.2 million a year or some guy thats come from poverty where 600k would change his life completely. And if cut him he has a high chance of going to a min wage job.
We are talking two guys who are the same level. Unless the coach believes Hayne is good enough to be a star i think it would be selfish on both Hayne and the coach to chose Hayne TBH.
Think of it like a job. Unless of course the whole thing is just a media stunt ;)

The Jarryd playing mind games, pretending he's having trouble understanding the playbook and shit so his teammates don't think he's a threat and he flies under the radar, what a legend, all mind games,he knows what he's doing.

There have been plenty of blokes who made careers out of special teams. Just because they have a position on offence/defence doesn't mean that is where they spent most of their time. Anyway, Hayne is a running back. Even if he plays special teams.
