LeBron dogged the Cavs after they built a team around him and took off to Miami to win a comp.... He returned "home" when the money was right.

Hayne was the closest thing to a LeBron in the NRL, he had a team built around him too. He "has achieved everything he can in the NRL"...... Maybe if the money is right he will come back as well.

In this case I think the cap might fit. Doesn't surprise me that he would be a LeBron fan....

Not sure that it's all about money for LeBron. He could easily be the highest paid player in the NBA if he wanted to. He's been paid 'unders' for years because he wants to stay competitive.
Compare his 2-year $42m contract with Carmelo Anthony who is on a 5-year $125m one. Anthony had the chance to go to Chicago and be an immediate contender but instead stuck with the money in NY where he has no chance of winning.

from memory lebron has said he won't take a pay cut ever again (took a little less in miami to help get/keep bosh and daffy wade) so assume he is on a max player contract, not including endorsements.

i get he wanted to go home but he is also chasing jordan for titles which is why he went back to cavs given they drafted andrew wiggins (who will be a star within two years) and last years top draft pick, as well as chucker kyrie. then after talking crap about developing the talent of wiggins, irving and the other guy he got cavs to trade the top picks of the last two years for his buddy k-love. the dude wants it all. i hope he can't swindle his way to equal jordan. the dude is freakishly good but isn't even close to the same calibre of player jordan was.

This bloke is on a 10-year $275m contract and all he does is swing a bat.

Lebron is getting the max money he could possibly get over the next 2 years. He couldn't have matched Carmello due to certain complications - but once the 2 years is up, they have a new TV deal over there, and a much bigger salary cap. Lebron wants to be able to cash in on the new money with a 5 year deal before he is too old to sign a 5 year deal...

Nah nothing since he left other than that he briefly met his former team mates when they went to Seattle.

I expect there will be a couple of articles on him as the draft approaches, depending on if there's any hype at that end. I believe Hayne will have a chance to show his credentials at the combine.

Possibly none (yet), but that wasn't the real point.

The suggestion was a joking explanation for the plethora of articles about an absent Hayne quoting his nuffie congregation mates. It seems a very Hill$ong thing to do to pedge some fruits of your "success" back to the church, and what better way (before you even land a financial contract) than to agree your success be measured on the basis of your press coverage, and start your giving to the looooooord accordingly?

Oh I see, like the article with Kris Inu, the Mormon.

When will we know if he made it or not? Will it be before June 30? if doesn't make it he can return to the origin decided like Alan Langer and just take off his helmet.

Looks like he may not need to go through the draft, as he was apparently automatically eligible for the NFL draft a few years ago (on the 4th anniversary of his leaving HS). Good thing no one drafted him then;-)
are you sure? i thought the leaving high school thing just meant he didn't need to go through the ncaa system to be eligible for the draft (but i may be wrong) similar to most nba players.

avenger, the draft is normally late april/early may. the normally run it on live espn so if you have fox you'll get a bit of an insight to the freak athletic specimens coming out of the ncaa league.

Yeh, that's what I thought initially. The section of the draft eligibility rules that seems most relevant is this:

"PLAYER NOT ATTENDING COLLEGE. Any player who does not attend college is
automatically eligible for selection in the next principal draft that is conducted after four NFL regular seasons have begun and ended following either his graduation from high
school or graduation of the class with which he entered high school, whichever is earlier. If
four football seasons have not elapsed, he is ineligible for selection, but may apply to the
Commissioner for Special Eligibility pursuant to the conditions in the section below entitled
?Special Eligibility.? If said player is not selected in the draft for which he is eligible, he is
eligible to be signed as a free agent, unless he subsequently attends college and participates in college football. In such event, he shall become subject to the rules that are applicable to players who attend college. "

https://www.nflregionalcombines.com/Docs/Eligibility%20rules.pdf

If the 'automatically eligible for selection' bit is taken literally (as some guys on the Reddit link on previous page believe is correct), then has actually gone through a draft without knowing it. It's pretty tricky though, and the rule was clearly written with US players in mind.

cheers for digging that up barry.

my read on that is that he can now nominate for the 2015 draft and, if not picked up by anyone, can then be signed by whoever as a free agent. i think he would still need to nominate and be available for selection. i would think if he wants any franchises to look at him seriously he would also need to take part in the combines.
